Microlax for constipation in pregnancy. Microlax during pregnancy: features of use. Composition and form of release

One of the common problems that can occur in a woman carrying a baby is disorder gastrointestinal tract. At this time, the endocrine nervous system, the hormonal background and the circulatory system of a woman undergo tremendous changes. Naturally, they in one way or another affect other organs and systems, including the digestive system.

A pregnant woman is often observed in the abdomen, flatulence, bloating, a feeling of heaviness in the abdomen,. All these conditions require treatment, since they negatively affect, because improper functioning of the gastrointestinal tract leads to the fact that the child does not absorb nutrients, and with constipation, toxins accumulate in the mother's body, which negatively affect both herself and the baby.

We will talk about how to help a woman with irregular bowel movements, and about the features of using Microlax during pregnancy, in this material.

Indications for use

Constipation may occur in future mother due to natural processes, since an increase by several times leads to the fact that it compresses the intestines. Thus, there is a violation of its normal peristalsis.

Another reason for delayed bowel movements is an increase in the blood of a pregnant woman in the level of progesterone, a hormone that reduces motor activity uterus. Simultaneously with this action, it provokes a decrease in intestinal activity.

Also, the causes of constipation can be a sedentary lifestyle, reception, wrong.

This problem you can try to solve:

  • drinking a large number per day (at least two liters), including a glass of warm water on an empty stomach;
  • the introduction into the daily diet of products that have a good effect on the functioning of the gastrointestinal tract, especially those rich in fiber (vegetables, fruits, greens), fermented milk products;
  • motor activity, daily light physical;
  • exclusion from the menu of incompatible products;
  • not using products containing dyes, preservatives, flavorings, canned food, spicy and smoked dishes, semi-finished products, carbonated.
If a woman knows about her problems with the gastrointestinal tract, then she should be diagnosed and treated at the stage.

Important! If during pregnancy any, even a minor problem with the activity of the gastrointestinal tract, it is necessary to notify the gynecologist about it. Having collected the necessary information, he will decide on a possible consultation with a gastroenterologist.

If, after following the above recommendations, the problem does not go away, the doctor may recommend taking special laxatives. One of these means is Microlax, which is often advised for pregnant women. It is prescribed for constipation, as well as for cleansing the large intestine before medical procedures and before.

The mechanism of action of microclysters is the splitting of solid feces with the help of special substances - peptizers (sorbitol, sodium citrate, sodium lauryl sulfoacetate) and their removal to the outside. As a result of the use of the drug, the contents of the intestine are liquefied, the necessary water enters it, peristalsis is stimulated, and defecation is facilitated.

Despite the fact that there is no unequivocal opinion of doctors as to whether a pregnant woman needs to do an enema immediately before childbirth, if a woman makes such a decision and the doctor advises her, then Microlax is just right for this procedure. It is entered before.

Today, however, bowel movements are mandatory, only if the woman is prone to constipation because hard stools can make it difficult for the baby to pass through the birth canal once it enters the pelvis. An enema is also advised to pregnant women who are prescribed.

However, a woman must understand that during contractions and when she pushes, the emptying process will occur in 100%. Therefore, if possible, it is still better to prepare and empty the intestines in advance. This can be done immediately after, or the onset of the first contractions, but before.

Did you know? the largest human internal organ is the small intestine - its length is four times the average height of a person.

The safety of the drug for the fetus

Of course, constipation negatively affects the condition of the baby. Firstly, it causes inconvenience to the expectant mother, and, accordingly, her poor health directly affects the child. Secondly, as we have already said, it can be poisoned by toxins that linger in the mother's body for a long time.

Thirdly, if a woman has to often push during a bowel movement, this can lead to uterine tone, which is dangerous for the course of pregnancy and is fraught with its premature termination. In addition, development is possible.

Therefore, constipation is clearly needs to be removed and treated. And Microlax is one of the most harmless drugs that helps to empty the intestines. This, in particular, is written in the instructions for use: during pregnancy, use is possible at the discretion of the doctor.

The safety of the drug is also evidenced by the record that it can be used during lactation, while canceling breast-feeding no need. The drug has an effect only in the intestines, it does not penetrate into the blood.

How to apply: instruction

"Mikrolaks" is a microclyster in the form of a tube, the contents of which are administered rectally. The drug contains 5 ml of a special solution in the form of a thick liquid.

Before insertion, wash your hands thoroughly and clean the anus. Take the tube in hand, remove the seal from its tip. Then the tube should be lightly squeezed with your fingers so that one drop of the solution flows out of the tip. The drug should completely lubricate the tip - so it will be easier to slide when inserted into the anus.

After that, the tip is completely inserted into the large intestine - for the entire length of 5 cm. The contents of the tube are squeezed out by squeezing.

Important! After squeezing out all the contents, the tube should not be loosened. It is removed from the colon without stopping squeezing.

After using the drug, you need to wash your hands. Dispose of the tube by throwing it in the trash.

Impact speed

According to the instructions and reviews, after using Microlax, emptying occurs within 5-15 minutes. Very rarely, the effect should be waited up to 40 minutes.

How many times a day can be applied

If you are concerned about how often you can use Microlax, then you need to understand that this drug does not eliminate the problem and does not help with chronic constipation. It can only be used occasionally for bowel movements once a day. For treatment, other means will be needed, and most importantly, the establishment of the main cause of the delay in emptying and its elimination.

Microclysters should not be used regularly, as this can provoke the transition of constipation to chronic form. There may be other negative consequences for the course of pregnancy.

Side effects

Like all medicines, Microlax can cause side effects. Although this is very rare, as it is generally well tolerated by people who take it. Occasionally, it can provoke:

  • burning in the anus (as a rule, this happens if there is damage to the mucosa);
  • allergic reactions (and rashes).

Did you know? The largest cell in human body is an egg - it can be seen with the naked eye. Its diameter is 130 microns. The smallest cell is the sperm cell. Its length is 55 microns.

However, often in many respects the successful course of pregnancy depends on the behavior of the expectant mother: lifestyle, correct and balanced nutrition, psychological mood, timely planned trips to the gynecologist, following his recommendations, and.

The expectant mother needs to listen to changes in the body and report negative ones to the doctor in time. Only he has the right to prescribe medications, including Microlax. Self-medication during pregnancy is unacceptable.

Reviews

Great tool! When I lay on the preservation during pregnancy, it helped me a lot. After discharge, she tried not to use microclysters anymore and replaced them with Regulax. It also works quickly and gently.

Very inconvenient to use, these microclysters. I won’t advise anyone - everything moved and poured out (((Moreover, you don’t really need to move, since the funds are quite a bit ... In general, I decided that I would take a weak cap again, after all, this format is much more convenient and efficient. And you also need to eat follow, lately I’ve been eating only toast with tea, there’s no time to cook, maybe that’s why the constipation has returned.

And for our child, this enema helped a lot, it didn’t take 5 minutes and it worked. Whoever writes here that it doesn’t help, maybe you are doing something wrong, because many of my friends use only microlax and everything is OK for everyone.

After Laparoscopy, Microlax helped a lot.

Although female doctors generally have a negative attitude towards the use of an enema during the bearing of a baby, many of them still allow and even recommend that patients use the Microlax microclyster. It comes in the form of a clear solution filled with small oxygen globules. Its structure is viscous. Microlax is sold in a tube with an elongated tip. One microclyster contains 5 mg of solution. The package contains from 4 to 12 enemas.

When it enters the feces, the drug softens them and stimulates the emptying of the intestines of the expectant mother. The use of the solution not only speeds up the act of defecation, but also helps to eliminate pain after it. The effect of the use of microclysters is observed after 5-10 minutes.

The drug is allowed to be used to eliminate constipation in women bearing a child, due to the safe composition. The active ingredients of Microlax help to moisturize and irritate the rectum, thereby stimulating the urge to defecate. Auxiliary components of the solution are water, sorbic acid, glycerin.

Among the active components of Microlax are:

  • Sodium citrate. Displaces the water contained in the feces, contributing to their excretion.
  • Sodium lauryl sulfoacetate. Liquefies feces.
  • Sorbitol. Stimulates the flow of water into the intestines.

Studies have shown that Microlax during pregnancy does not affect either the mother or the child, since its active substances do not enter the bloodstream. In isolated cases, individual intolerance to the components of the solution is observed.

In early pregnancy, women often experience constipation (read more in the article: constipation in early pregnancy). They occur due to changes in hormonal levels and a weakening of the functions of the smooth muscles of the intestine.

Gynecologists advise patients at this time only to follow a diet - exclude fried and fatty foods and enrich their diet with foods rich in fiber. Physical activity is another way to get rid of an unpleasant problem. If both methods do not have the desired effect and become ineffective, doctors resort to the use of microenemas.

At a later date, that is, at the end of the second and during the third trimester, there is an increase in pressure on the intestines due to the active weight gain of the fetus. Certain medications that gynecologists prescribe to maintain the patient's condition, such as drugs that reduce uterine tone and contain calcium and iron, can also lead to constipation during pregnancy.

The instructions for the drug indicate that it can be used during pregnancy. And the doctors themselves often prescribe it to their patients with such a delicate problem. The drug has an exclusively local effect, is not absorbed into the bloodstream, does not affect the tone of the uterine muscles and the fetus itself. Therefore, it is prescribed both in the early stages and in the later ones. Microlax is used to eliminate single or chronic constipation, as well as to cleanse the intestines immediately before childbirth.

Nothing is easier than making a Microlax enema, the only way to use it is to introduce it at the destination. The drug has an effect only in the lumen of the rectum. For one enema, 1 tube of the drug is used. The tube is equipped with a special tip so that it can be injected immediately. Separately, you do not need to use a regular enema.

It is no secret that before the birth itself, a woman is given an enema to free the intestines from feces. It is prescribed instead of an enema. In some maternity hospitals, enemas are not done now, and women are immediately told to give themselves an enema with Microlax as soon as the first contractions appear. But, most doctors are against such enemas, because they soften the feces, and the intestines may not be completely cleared.

Before giving birth, it is better to do a classic enema to thoroughly cleanse the intestines from feces.

If a pregnant woman has constipation, then it is imperative to use local laxatives. Medications familiar to many can cause an increase in the tone of the uterus in a future mother, cause a miscarriage or childbirth in the early stages. Microlax is not absorbed by the intestinal walls, ridding it of accumulated contents.

When labor activity is activated, women in without fail you need to empty the intestines, and the best solution would be the use of microclysters. It is a great alternative and is more gentle, less painful and more comfortable to use. Of course, comfort in this matter does not play a big role, but for many women it is really important to prevent bowel movements in the process of having a baby.

With all the positive properties, the remedy acts quite aggressively and enhances the pain that is already present during contractions, and can also provoke too sharp opening of the uterus. But in this case you need to take care of your own health, because with accidental hit feces in the vagina, the development of a serious infection is not excluded.

Microlax is classified as a laxative that provokes the process of defecation. It is in the form of a tube with a tip that should be inserted into the anus. Before use, you need to squeeze a drop of the product onto the tip, as glycerin will reduce the level of discomfort. The contents of the bottle are designed for one use only. And the effect occurs within fifteen minutes after the introduction of the substance.

The main advantages of using such microclysters are lightning-fast results and ease of use. Moreover, the cleaning procedure can be done independently in comfortable conditions immediately before going to the hospital. It is especially good that the composition of the drug is as safe as possible for the body of the woman in labor and her unborn baby. It is not recommended to use Microlax if the amniotic fluid has already passed and the uterus has opened.

Causes and consequences of constipation during pregnancy

The cause of frequent constipation in expectant mothers is natural physiological changes. When pregnancy occurs, the production of progesterone is activated, which reduces the tone of smooth muscles. Because of this, intestinal motility is disturbed and, as a result, constipation occurs. Malnutrition due to a change in food habits also affects the regularity of the stool.

Dealing with constipation is not easy, but it is still possible. Doctors recommend that pregnant women mainly move a lot and eat safe laxative foods. Dried apricots, prunes and infusions from them, fresh kefir, raw and boiled beets, carrots, kiwi are perfect for this.

However, no matter how much expectant mothers try to establish normal bowel movements, many fail to do this. And they are forced to turn to medicines, one of which may be Microlax.

This tool is a small tube (volume 5 ml), the contents of which are introduced into the rectum in order to empty it from the stool that has stagnated there. The drug is indicated for use in constipation, encopresis, as well as before such procedures for examining the organs of the gastrointestinal tract, such as rectoscopy and x-rays.

The active ingredients of Microlax are sodium citrate, 70% sodium lauryl sulfoacetate, 70% sorbitol solution. This composition determines the therapeutic effect of micro-enemas:

  • stimulation of water entry into the intestinal lumen;
  • liquefaction and softening of the contents of the intestine;
  • increase in the volume of feces;
  • activation of peristalsis of the walls of the rectum;
  • speeding up and facilitating bowel movements.

Microlax acts only in the lumen of the rectum.

This tool is very convenient to use. After toileting the anus and thoroughly washing your hands, you need to take a microclyster, break off the protective seal, press on the tube until a drop of solution appears in its hole - this will lubricate the enema tip and facilitate its introduction, minimizing discomfort from such a procedure. The tip of the enema is then very gently inserted all the way into the rectum, and the tube is squeezed to introduce the entire contents. Without releasing the compressed walls of the enema, it must be removed from the anus.

The therapeutic effect occurs very quickly - from 5 to 15 minutes, depending on the condition and characteristics of the body.

Can Microlax be used during pregnancy?

The composition of the drug includes synthetic substances, but this does not impose any age restrictions on the use of the drug. According to indications, it is prescribed even for newborns. Moreover, Microlax can be used both during lactation and during pregnancy - both in the early and late stages, since the active ingredients of the drug are not absorbed into the systemic circulation and do not lead to uterine muscle tone, like some other remedies for constipation. It is very convenient to put a microclyster before childbirth for effective emptying of the rectum.

However, this does not mean at all that one can resort to the help of this tool at any time, without control. It should only be used after consulting a doctor. Moreover, the impact of Microlax on biochemical and physiological processes in the human body (that is, pharmacodynamics) has not been sufficiently studied.

Expectant mothers should also take into account that side reactions in the form of burning are possible, therefore Microlax should be used very carefully during pregnancy for the first time. There are no other contraindications, except for individual intolerance to the components of the drug, for its use.

There are not many medicines that expectant mothers can use to combat constipation. Microlax is considered one of the best. But resorting to his help (as well as to the help of any other) is possible only in critical cases as an exception. You must understand that in this way it is impossible to cure constipation, and therefore get rid of this problem. Microlax brings only temporary relief and, with frequent use, can be addictive, chronic, and even complications during pregnancy.

No matter how difficult it may be, all your efforts must be directed towards achieving regular bowel movements in a natural way. Moreover, despite the high efficiency, Microlax is not suitable for everyone ...

Duphalac or Microlax during pregnancy: reviews

It is unlikely that there will be at least one drug that is guaranteed to be effective in one hundred percent of cases of its use and at the same time will not cause any side effects and signs of intolerance. Microlax is no exception and collects the most controversial reviews. A large number of pregnant women and young mothers speak of the drug in the best possible way, since it very quickly, efficiently and conveniently allows you to solve an extremely unpleasant, but very delicate issue. Even when used in newborns, Microlax has proven itself very well. Moms especially like that the enema is small and ready to use: fast, hygienic and hassle-free.

But the drug also has ardent opponents who not only do not recommend resorting to its help, but also eloquently describe why exactly. It must be admitted that according to numerous reviews on the forums, Microlax in fact too often causes an unbearable burning sensation in the rectum after the administration of an enema. Moms say that the kids just wriggle and squeal in pain, and a considerable number of women in a position who have experienced “side effects” on themselves are not advised to use Microlax during pregnancy. Despite the promises of the manufacturer of this enema, softening and liquefaction of feces does not always occur: it happens that dry hard stools are sharply pushed out under the influence of an enema, causing not only severe pain, but even injuries to the anus.

And therefore, instead, if you can’t do without pharmacy drugs, many people prefer to use Duphalac. Pharmacologists do not say that the drug closest to Microlax in terms of the mechanism of action is glycerin suppositories - with a stretch they can be called an analogue of Microlax (or, at least, an alternative).
