So, in order to transfer the application you will need:
1. Open panel " Options", Further " System" and " Applications and features". Here you should select the program and press the button " Move".
2. In the proposed list, select the disk to which we will transfer the application and click again "Move". If applications from another device are found on the selected drive, you will be prompted to delete them. If you do not want to remove these programs, then you should select a new drive.
3. In order not to transfer programs manually, you can configure automatic installation to the desired disk. To do this, go to Settings-System-Storage-Storage Locations. Then select the desired disk from the list " New applications will be saved here:", now press " Apply".
Beginners, inexperienced users do not see the difference between the computer's logical drives. These people tend to save their documents created in office applications, such as Microsoft Word or Microsoft Excel, or files downloaded by the browser from the Internet, to where the application writes such files by default. And by default, both office suites and browsers upload their files to drive C in the subdirectories of the "My Documents" folder. This in itself is not very scary. Why move system folders

I'll start from afar. The best option for installing Windows is the initial division into several logical drives (most often there are 2 of them). In one of which the system is installed, and in others everything that is needed (movies, music, images, etc.). And it would be correct to "give" a maximum of 100 GB to the system, divide the rest or leave it on another disk. Wrong ways will be: leave about 30 GB for the system and not separate the hard drive, but "shove" everything into one. After this, the system will need to be constantly cleaned and it will be difficult to determine what is where.
For example, on a 500 GB laptop, I have a hard drive divided into 100 and 400 GB, respectively, for the OS and my needs. This is approximately of course, because the structure of hard disks will not allow to divide evenly. And even buying an 8 GB flash drive you will get something around 7.5 GB. But that's another story. You got the gist.
But even if your hard drive is divided correctly (at least 70GB is allocated for Windows), then sooner or later the time will come when there will be little space and Windows will "ask" to remove the excess. When this happens to me with a local disk where my data is, the toad strangles me to delete something from movies or installer programs. You have to contrive and either delete, or transfer to disks, or to a portable hard drive in order to at least somehow save what was (you know, a habit). I don't think I'm the only one with this problem.
But if this happens to the disk where the system is installed, then it's even worse (at least for me). Here it becomes a pity for the installed programs and you need to decide which ones to "sacrifice" in order to save the place.
You can, of course, clean up what you have with the help of utilities. Clean up any garbage in the form of temporary files and folders, recycle bin, registry and everything else that is possible. But sometimes this is not enough and not much space is freed up, but for the first time it is enough.
Now closer to the essence of the article.
For those who do not know, I will explain. If you think that what you "throw" on the desktop, delete files and folders in the trash, save files in My Documents, Music, Downloads, etc. then nothing happens from this in your system disk with a place - you are deeply mistaken. The desktop is not a separate drive. This is just a "shortcut" indicating a place in your system disk. Therefore, when you download all these places - you are loading your disk on which the operating system is located.
In this article, I will look at a couple of ways to make inconspicuous folders like Programs and Profiles on a different drive. Why is this method good? Yes, you can choose a folder for saving your installed programs and games (moreover, 90% of them ask you to specify the folder where they will be installed, and the remaining 10% are installed without asking), for downloading music, pictures and other things. But very often it happens that users simply click on the button during installation Further without even thinking about what is written there (well, along the way, they put themselves other programs from the developer or toolbars in the browser or something else) and as a result everything is installed on the system disk. If someone thinks that this is how it should be - that games and programs are installed exactly in the Program Files folder, otherwise the computer will die and the program will not work, then I will refute these thoughts. Programs do not accidentally ask where to install them. To put it simply - they do not care where the files will be, the main thing is that the path to them is indicated in the system files and the registry.
It's the same with profiles - often you just don't think about the fact that there is a folder with movies on your desktop or download files from the Internet to the Downloads folder. And meanwhile it's loading the disk.
And after the OS writes to you that there is not enough space, you start deleting programs and games (sometimes necessary), sacrificing them for the sake of space. And you could just look at the desktop or folders with music, pictures, downloads and more.
That's why I'll show you how to make the default installation of programs and games on another disk, as well as profiles (which, by the way, sometimes also accumulate a lot of garbage in the form of temporary files of various utilities). Having done this once - it will remain until the system is reinstalled.
How to change the default installation path for programs and games to a different drive?

Despite the fact that modern computers put at least 512 gigabytes of disks, in practice this vast space is not used. Notebook manufacturers like to divide the hard drive into several logical ones, giving the C: drive very little space, and the non-system D: - everything else. And the problem turns out: the disk is large, but there is no place to install programs!
Also, laptops in the price range of 35-50 thousand rubles have gained great popularity, in which two physical disks are installed: a capacious HDD (512 - 1024 GB) and a small SSD (64 - 128 GB). The first is a classic hard drive, slow and noisy. The second is a solid-state drive, which is essentially a very, very fast flash drive. System installed on SSD starts really very quickly, in just a few seconds. But because of this file organization, the C: drive turns out to be small and you need to transfer something to a slow HDD - documents, rarely used programs.
The easiest and safest option, when the programs are already installed and you don’t want to mess with the computer, is to transfer part of the data to another, freer disk so that nothing breaks.
What takes up the most space
The heaviest folders on the C: drive are usually:
- C:\Windows- directory of the installed operating system. There is nothing to delete there, although you can reduce the size with the command "compact / compactos: always" in the command line, run as administrator. This can halve the space occupied by Windows, I would not recommend getting carried away like that - responsiveness can decrease, especially on a PC with a slow processor, any extra compression / decompression operation will take too many resources. Can't be transferred.
- C:\Program files and C:\Program files (x86)- most of the application programs are installed there. About their transfer and will be in the next chapter.
- C:\Users(folder "Users") - this is where the files of computer users are stored: documents, images and the contents of the Desktop. Such directories can be transferred using Windows tools by opening the properties of such directories and using the "Location" tab. In Windows 10, you can not poke around in the properties of folders, but go to Start - Settings - System - Device storage - Change storage location for new content and select another disk, the system will transfer the data itself, but not all.
- C:\Users\UserName\AppData- this folder, hidden by default, can take up a lot of space, because browser caches, game saves and service files of various programs are stored in its wilds. It is undesirable to transfer all of it, although folders with caches can be transferred. However, you can not bother with the transfer, but with the help of or others periodically delete unnecessary files. Especially those stored in a folder c:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local\Temp- there is a lot of garbage.
- c:\ProgramData- a hidden directory that stores program settings that are common to all Windows users. Should not be touched.
So, we don’t touch the Windows folder, we need to deal with C:\Users according to the circumstances, but installed programs from C:\Program files and C:\Program files (x86) can be transferred. The software will help with this, the instructions for which are below.
FreeMove program - instruction
There is a simple and safe way to move folders with installed software to another drive so that you don't even have to change shortcuts - the free FreeMove utility that creates symbolic links to folders.
1. Download FreeMove.exe from the official page: github.com/imDema/FreeMove/releases/ .
2. Make on drive D: (or another, depending on where there is free space) folders "Program files" and "Program files (x86)". You don't need to create anything inside.
3. Run the downloaded FreeMove utility as an administrator.

4. In the program that opens, use the Browse buttons to select what and where you want to transfer. For example, in the screenshot below, I am migrating Microsoft Office:

- If the error “destination folder doesn’t exists” appears, it means that a non-existent folder was specified in the “To:” field.
- Error "You do not have the required privileges to move the directory. ..." means that the program was not run as an administrator.
6. Repeating steps 4-5, transfer the remaining folders with programs in turn. By the way, the “Program files” folder itself cannot be transferred due to possible problems, only the directories of individual programs inside. The author has built in "fool protection", so she cannot transfer system directories.
What FreeMove does
This software creates symbolic links ("symbolic link") - special file system objects that work as pointers to a directory or file. Unlike the usual shortcut, which massively litter the Desktops, symlinks from the point of view of programs are no different from ordinary folders and files. Therefore, they are best suited for seamless transfer of directories from SSD to HDD.
A symbolic link can also point to a non-existent object, nothing bad will happen - when you try to open it, an error will appear from the absence of a file. And if you delete the link, then the folder or file it points to will not be deleted.
Essentially, FreeMove does the same thing as the mklink system program, but provides users with a user-friendly interface.
How to return back
Since shortcuts are essentially created in the source directories, which the system will follow to another disk to launch programs, you can delete these shortcuts and manually transfer the originals back.
Alternative ways
1. In order not to litter the C: drive, when installing the software, you can specify in which folder on which drive it should be installed. Alas, there are programs that work normally only when installed on the C: drive in a strictly predefined directory. For example, programs from Adobe like Photoshop, Illustrator, Adobe Premiere start to fail when trying to install to another drive. Therefore, the usual installation on another disk partition does not always save.
2. You can resize logical drives by taking a bite out of a larger one and giving it to a smaller one. There are many good ones for working with disk partitions. The problem is that there is still a possibility that during the expansion of the C: drive, the light will turn off, something will hang and then all data will be lost. Is it worth the risk of the C: drive getting bigger? I think no.
3. Buying a new hard drive with a larger capacity is the ultimate option. And if it is an SSD, then in general everything will be chic. Alas, it costs money and you have to resolve the issue with
