Beans for pancreatitis: tricks for eating legumes. Is it harmful or beneficial to eat beans for pancreatic diseases Principles of dietary measures

A sparing diet for pancreatitis requires careful selection of products. Only products that do not irritate the mucous membrane, leaving it in a state of minimal load, are to be introduced into the diet. In this case, the body should receive good nutrition, including all the necessary vitamins, minerals, amino acids and other valuable substances. Therefore, all types of beans should be considered from these two positions.

grain beans

The enormous value of beans is difficult to overestimate. Even a small handful of grains will be enough to restore energy after physical exertion. Despite the high calorie content, you can not be afraid to gain weight due to the large amount of fiber. Thanks to fiber, beans actively remove toxic substances and toxins from the body. There are other important properties:

  • There is a lot of potassium in the grains to reduce the manifestations of atherosclerosis and arrhythmia, relieve muscle spasms, and calcium.
  • It is used to raise hemoglobin due to the presence of iron.
  • Deficient magnesium, which is necessary for the functioning of many systems, including the nervous system, can also be obtained from dishes with beans.
  • Almost all B vitamins, as well as C, E, PP and carotene will help replenish strength during fasting, as well as a large amount of vegetable protein.
  • The anticarcinogenic properties of some varieties make it possible to use prophylactically for the prevention of breast cancer.
  • Folic acid takes part in blood formation.

However, bean grains with pancreatitis are strictly prohibited for consumption. The product is difficult to digest in any form of thermal processing, and without it it is not eaten at all. A huge amount of fiber damages the mucosa. Eating is accompanied by flatulence. All this increases the load on the pancreas, causing seizures even during a period of persistent remission. Therefore, under no circumstances should patients with pancreatitis eat grain beans.

Pod varieties

String beans are also called sugar, asparagus or green beans. It contains all the same vitamins and minerals as in the grain variety, but its value still remains quite high. Its components are very harmonious: iron is perfectly absorbed along with vitamin C, and vitamin B6 helps to get all the magnesium.

But, if the grains are high in calories, then the legume varieties have only 31 kcal. There is little protein, a lot of vitamins and minerals, along with a minimum of calories, the use of the product becomes very tempting for those who want to keep their weight normal or lose weight. There is a positive effect on the excretory system, the normalization of metabolic processes, including salt.

If the figure is more often concerned about women, then men are interested in the working condition of the prostate gland. String beans are used as a prophylactic against adenoma.

But in diseases of the pancreas, one has to reckon with a large amount of fiber, which has a destructive effect on the diseased organ and becomes a potential causative agent of an attack of the disease. Therefore, it is impossible to include green beans in the diet, not only during exacerbation. In the chronic course of the disease, in remission, this is also dangerous.

bean pod recipe

Is it possible to have beans with pancreatitis? It is forbidden. It's a paradox, but it's impossible in the usual form for everyone. But a decoction of those parts that are usually not eaten, namely the wings of some varieties of grain beans, you can.

Scientists have discovered a rare protein with the complex name phytohemagglutinin. Its effect on the body, in particular the pancreas, is simply amazing. It seriously increases the activity of the healing process, promoting the work of leukocytes. Only 10 days of taking a decoction of the bean leaves of the above varieties allows patients to achieve stable remission.

The following recipe is usually used:

  • Let the leaves dry naturally.
  • Grind raw materials in a coffee grinder or in any other way.
  • Pour about 50 gr. into a thermos. the resulting powder. The rest can be stored in a cardboard box or cloth bag for later use.
  • Pour 450 ml of boiling water over and close the thermos.
  • Insist for 7-8 hours.
  • Pour to receive after shaking the thermos.
  • Drink half a glass twice a day or a small glass throughout the day before each meal.

When used, people with diabetes need to be careful, since the resulting decoction can become a substitute for insulin, and its adoption affects blood sugar levels. Therefore, it is imperative to consult with your doctor.

It is forbidden to take a folk remedy for pregnant women at any time and nursing mothers, as well as patients who are being observed for any blood diseases.

Despite its valuable qualities, beans cannot serve as a savory addition to the menu of a patient with pancreatitis. A decoction of the leaves cannot be considered food, but in this form, the beans are even shown. The main thing is to follow the instructions exactly and consult with a dietitian or gastroenterologist. Then, in a short period, it will be possible to achieve remission and diversify a meager diet with a large number of products.

Good afternoon! My mother has chronic pancreatitis, in the treatment of which proper nutrition is of great importance. I heard that green beans have high healing and nutritional properties. I would like to know the opinion of a specialist, is it possible to use such beans for pancreatitis in order to diversify the mother's diet with a useful product?

Answer

The main direction of effective treatment of any form of pancreatitis, which is inflammation of the pancreas, is a special diet. It should be balanced, harmless and sparing, not leading to an additional load on the diseased organ. String (green, asparagus) beans, due to their rich mineral and vitamin composition, high fiber content, are an indispensable product for healthy people.

Many people know about its antimicrobial, regenerating, anti-inflammatory properties. It is able to regulate blood sugar levels in diabetes, which often accompanies this disease, increase hemoglobin. Despite this, patients with pancreatitis should refrain from including beans in their diet. This can be explained as follows.

Green beans are not easily digestible foods recommended for inflammatory processes in the pancreas. It contains a large amount of fiber, essential for healthy people. For its digestion, the specified organ, weakened by the disease, will work in an enhanced mode, releasing a large amount of enzymes.

A person with this disease may experience a sharp deterioration in the condition with manifestations of pain, a feeling of heaviness in the abdomen, increased gas formation and flatulence, stool disorders, nausea and vomiting.

In a stable stage of remission in chronic pancreatitis, the patient is sometimes allowed to eat young green beans in small portions and only in boiled form, without spices and oil. In the acute form of the disease, any beans are strictly prohibited.

Dieting during the treatment of an exacerbation of pancreatitis involves the rejection of many foods, including some healthy vegetables. It is not recommended to eat beans with pancreatitis, despite the large amount of useful substances that it contains. Sometimes at the stage of remission of the disease, it is allowed to use beans prepared in a special way.

Grain beans contain many substances necessary for a healthy body:

  • a large amount of vegetable proteins,
  • complex carbohydrates (fiber)
  • vitamins of group B, as well as C, PP, E, folic acid,
  • trace elements: potassium, iron, magnesium, zinc, calcium and others,
  • glucokinin is a substance that lowers the concentration of sugar in the blood,
  • phytohemagglutinin,
  • purines.

But, despite such a number of useful ingredients, grain beans (white or red) are a product prohibited in pancreatitis. Moreover, the ban applies both to the time of exacerbation of the disease, and to the period of remission. This is due to the fact that it is a very high-calorie product, difficult to digest, especially with existing digestive problems.

Is it possible to have green beans with pancreatitis?

String (sugar or asparagus) beans are a more dietary variety of this member of the legume family. Its energy value is significantly lower than that of the grain species due to its much lower protein content. For other indicators (vitamins, minerals, biologically active substances), these products are similar.

String beans during pancreatitis and other diseases of the digestive tract (gastritis, duodenitis, enterocolitis, cholecystitis) are sometimes allowed only at the stage of persistent remission of chronic inflammation. But with its use, an exacerbation of the disease is possible due to the large amount of fiber, so experts usually recommend refraining from eating any variety of beans with a diagnosis of chronic pancreatitis.

bean broth

For the treatment of pancreatitis, it is allowed to drink a decoction of this plant. For its preparation, not all parts are used, but only the leaves of fresh beans. The recipe is simple:

  1. Separate the shells and grains.
  2. Free from beans, dry the green pods and grind using a coffee grinder.
  3. Pour 4 tablespoons of the resulting powder with a liter of boiling water in a thermos and leave to infuse for about 8 hours.

It is recommended to drink such a decoction in half a glass twice a day. Nutritionists recommend that you usually use this remedy for about 2 weeks. Judging by the feedback from patients who supplemented the standard course of treatment with a decoction, the condition improved faster: abdominal pain decreased, nausea quickly passed, and the general condition returned to normal.

This drink improves the condition of the pancreas:

  • has anti-inflammatory, anti-edematous effect,
  • contributes to the rapid regeneration of damaged tissues due to the vitamins, minerals, phytohemagglutinin proteins contained in the decoction,
  • improves the patency of the pancreatic ducts, as well as the biliary tract with cholecystitis,
  • lowers blood sugar levels.

Contraindications to a decoction of beans

Bean drink is useful for any person and has almost no contraindications. But still, under certain physiological or pathological conditions, doctors recommend refraining from using it:

  • pregnancy,
  • lactation period,
  • concomitant diabetes mellitus,
  • blood diseases.

What is the harm of beans for a sick organism?

In pancreatitis, the use of legumes causes undesirable effects that significantly worsen the patient's well-being:

  1. Increased peristalsis of the digestive tract, which is clinically manifested by abdominal cramps, the development of diarrhea.
  2. Increased gas formation in the intestines, bloating.
  3. Stimulation of the production of digestive juices by all glands of the gastrointestinal tract (gastric, intestinal, pancreatic juice, bile). This causes an exacerbation of many chronic inflammatory processes.
  4. A pronounced decrease in blood sugar levels due to the presence of glucokinin in the composition of beans. This condition is called hypoglycemia and occurs infrequently, mainly with the concomitant use of hypoglycemic drugs or insulin.
  5. Increased risk of kidney stones, bladder due to purines. These substances are metabolized in the body to uric acid derivatives and deposited in the kidneys, which provokes the development of urolithiasis.
  6. The risk of developing joint diseases due to the deposition of salts of the same uric acid there. This condition is called gouty arthritis. These pathologies develop quite rarely - with a very frequent use of large amounts of beans.

Beans are a very useful product, but due to the large amount of fiber in diseases of the digestive tract, it is not recommended to eat dishes from it. Under a special ban is grain beans. String beans are a product less harmful to the pancreas, but it is also introduced into the diet of a sick person with caution. The most useful bean product for a patient with pancreatitis is considered a decoction that does not contain fiber, but supplies the body with useful substances.

With pancreatitis, one of the most important conditions for treatment is diet. Food should be sparing, so as not to additionally burden the already inflamed pancreas. The patient is faced with many restrictions in the previously habitual diet. Beans are no exception; its use during an exacerbation of the disease has a number of features.

Beans are classified as legumes. It is a valuable source of protein (according to its content it ranks second after meat) and provides the body with the necessary energy. Of the useful substances, it also contains pectin and fiber, manganese, fluorine and iron, zinc, magnesium, sodium, potassium and calcium, iodine, phosphorus. Rich in vitamins of the following groups - B, C, E, and PP.

Due to its composition, beans have the following beneficial effects on the body:

  1. Helps with hypertension, atherosclerosis, cardiovascular diseases, rheumatism, anemia;
  2. Enriches the body with energy and contributes to its rapid recovery after physical exertion, various diseases;
  3. Normalizes metabolism;
  4. Serves for the prevention of tuberculosis, bronchitis;
  5. Reduces blood sugar levels, so it is a very useful product for diabetes;
  6. Enriches the cells of the body with oxygen, which is an excellent prevention of the development of cancer;
  7. Stimulates the production of hemoglobin;
  8. Promotes the removal of stones from the kidneys;
  9. Has a diuretic effect;
  10. Helps eliminate wrinkles;
  11. The use of masks from a decoction of beans makes the dermis elastic and toned.

String beans or it is also called asparagus beans have many useful properties:

  • promotes the elimination of toxins from the body;
  • is a valuable source of fiber;
  • normalizes blood sugar levels;
  • helps to strengthen connective and bone tissues;
  • protects the body from free radicals, which are the main cause of wrinkles, premature aging and many age-related diseases;
  • protects the eyes from the negative effects of ultraviolet rays;
  • prevents the formation of spots on the eye cornea;
  • contains a large amount of folic acid, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, manganese;
  • soothes migraine pain;
  • helps to strengthen the immune system;
  • improves reproductive function.

At the same time, the product is forbidden to eat raw, uncooked, as this can cause poisoning. Legumes are a rather heavy product for the stomach, they require great efforts of the body to digest, and lead to increased gas formation and flatulence. To reduce such side effects, the product should be soaked in cold water for a couple of hours before cooking. Still beans need a long heat treatment. To reduce the risk of flatulence, it is useful to eat beans along with gas-reducing spices, such as dill.

It is not recommended to eat beans with pancreatitis - this is a general rule. This statement is justified by the fact that legumes are difficult to digest and therefore exert a large load on the pancreas, which is highly undesirable in case of inflammation of the organ. They contain a lot of fiber and provoke bloating, increased gas formation, which can provoke an exacerbation of a pancreatic attack.

At the same time, patients with inflammation of the pancreas need to know one nuance: during acute pancreatitis, it is forbidden to eat beans, but at the same time it is useful to drink a decoction from the wings of a legume. The fruits themselves can be introduced into the diet carefully and only after two months after the end of attacks of acute inflammation of the gland.

In the stage of exacerbation

In the stage of exacerbation of pancreatitis, only a decoction of the leaves of ordinary beans is used to treat the disease, but the fruits are contraindicated. When digesting beans, a large amount of pancreatic juice is produced, an increased load is placed on the pancreas, which will lead to an exacerbation of an attack of the disease, cause significant pain, and can also lead to injury to the organ.

Bean leaves in pancreatitis in the form of a decoction help cleanse the pancreatic ducts, remove toxins and excess fluid from the body, provide the patient with the necessary energy in a strict diet.

In the early days of an acute attack of the disease, the patient may generally be shown complete abstinence from food and drinking only water. In such a situation, just a decoction of legume pods will give the patient the necessary energy for life. In addition, such a drink has a vasodilating, antibacterial, hypoglycemic effect, which has a beneficial effect on the state of the gastrointestinal tract, helps to calm the inflammatory process.

At the same time, a decoction of beans is contraindicated in pregnant women, nursing mothers, people suffering from ulcers, cholecystitis, hypoglycemia.

In chronic course

It is possible or not to use beans in chronic pancreatitis, depending on the ongoing form of the disease:

  1. With an exacerbation of the disease, beans are strictly prohibited (only a decoction is allowed);
  2. In the remission stage, beans can be slowly introduced into the diet.

Starting from the third month after the end of an attack of pancreatitis, beans, in conditions of stable remission, can be gradually introduced into the diet. However, it must be borne in mind that even at the stage of recovery, patients with a history of pancreatitis can only consume a small amount of the product. In this case, it is necessary to follow the basic rules for cooking legumes to prevent subsequent flatulence:

  • soak in water for at least two hours before cooking;
  • cook for at least 60 minutes (red beans are firmer than white beans and take longer to cook);
  • do not fill with oil, salt, can be used only with spices and herbs that reduce gas formation.

String beans with pancreatitis are allowed only at the stage of remission. It contains a very large amount of fiber and is therefore difficult for the stomach to digest. You can only eat well-boiled asparagus, without oil and spices, and then in small volumes. Any kind of beans is contraindicated in patients with chronic pancreatitis as a main course.

Canned beans are also allowed to be consumed only at the stage of remission and in small quantities. The most useful types of product for pancreatitis are:

  • holly beans;
  • tepari;
  • lima.

These types of legumes contain proteins that promote the activation of leukocytes and accelerate the healing process.

Features of cooking beans

The first version of the medicinal decoction

A decoction of bean leaves will help relieve the inflammatory process and quench pain during an attack of acute pancreatitis. To prepare it, you will need well-dried bean flaps (lushpaiki).

50 grams of crushed leaves (they can be ground in a mortar, blender, coffee grinder) must be poured with 0.5 liters of hot boiled water and placed in a thermos or in a glass jar, which is wrapped with a blanket on top. The broth is infused for nine hours. The drink is drunk before meals for half a cup three times a day. If pancreatitis is accompanied by diabetes mellitus, the frequency of taking the decoction must be discussed with the attending physician, since a lack or excess of insulin can adversely affect the patient's condition.

The second version of the medicinal decoction

You can also prepare a decoction according to another recipe, faster.

A tablespoon of crushed leaves is poured into a glass of hot boiled water and insisted for 15 minutes in a water bath. Then they are cooled to room temperature, strained, the husks are thrown away, and the infusion is consumed half a cup before meals.

boiled beans

To prepare asparagus beans, they are first soaked for 2-3 hours in cold water. Then dipped in boiling water and boiled for about 10 minutes. The older the beans, the longer they need to be cooked. The water can be slightly salted. Ready beans remain firm, but they should not crunch when cut.

? Of course, this representative of legumes has valuable properties. Grain beans are enriched with vitamins, vegetable protein and minerals. However, is the benefit of eating the product with inflammation of the pancreas preserved, or is the organ harmed?

String beans for pancreatitis in the acute stage

Many tasty and satisfying dishes can be prepared with the addition of beans. Unfortunately, after suffering an acute attack of inflammation of the gland, all these dishes are under the strictest ban.

Grain beans, like other legumes, contribute to the abundant production of gastric juice. This is necessary for their successful digestion, because they belong to the category of foods that are difficult to digest. Thus, the injured pancreas will work intensively, which is contraindicated for those who have recently experienced an acute inflammatory process.

The diet of such patients is based on complete rest. It is not for nothing that the first day in a medical institution is completely spent under the motto “Cold. Hunger. Peace." In addition, green beans cause flatulence and increased gas formation, which, in turn, can provoke a new round of inflammation.

Beans for chronic pancreatitis

Even when the acute stage is replaced by remission, beans are still not recommended for the above reasons. Despite this, it can still do a good job for patients with an inflamed gland in the form of a decoction.

    Grind, for example, bean shells in a coffee grinder.

    Pour about 50 gr. the resulting powder in a thermos, remove the rest until the next time.

    Fill them with boiling water in a volume of 450 ml.

    Insist during the night.

    Drink a decoction of 0.5 cups half an hour before meals, after shaking.

The decoction not only muffles inflammation, but also helps in the regulation of blood sugar levels, due to the fact that the beans contain glucokinin, an insulin-like substance. This is extremely important, since according to statistics, diabetes often accompanies pancreatic disease.

A decoction of beans is contraindicated in pregnant or lactating women, people with hypoglycemia and other blood disorders. We strongly advise you to consult with your doctor before use to determine the correct frequency of administration and dosage. If you have diabetes, too much or too little insulin can be detrimental to your condition. Therefore, bean broth should be used only with the permission of a specialist.
