We continue to talk about famous personalities of the world of tanks. Today, World of Tanks news presenter Olga Sergeevna came under the spotlight of our pen. Unlike other people we previously wrote about, Olga Sergeevna gained popularity in wot simply because she is a girl.

In fact, it is not clear why she is causing such a stir around herself. After all, Olga Sergeevna is simply the presenter of world of tanks news. It appeared in the second issue of wargaming news, and tons of positive reviews immediately poured into the forums. Well, finally a girl visited the harsh world of brutal tankers. By the way, even after the Miss World of Tanks beauty contest was held, players still continue to twitch nervously at the sight of girls in tanks. And it’s not even clear whether the emotions come from positive or negative.

But, despite the different attitudes of tankers towards girls, Olga Sergeevna World of Tanks completely won over the audience. What can I say, some players even install hangar skins with her portraits on the wall. I'm afraid to imagine what happens to them when they start watching wot videos with her participation. It's scary, comrades!

By the way, Olga Sergeevna hosts not only wot news, but also other programs covering the inner life of wargaming. You can always watch wot videos in the archives, or wait for new releases.

King's daughter

There are rumors that Olga Sergeevna got into WOT for a reason. There are suggestions that her father is Sergei Burkatovsky, the main game designer of the project. It was he who made his daughter the face of wargaming news. To support this, the players cite several facts: her middle name is appropriate, and they have a similar face. Although even if so, in my opinion, none of the users of the world of tanks game are against it. Everyone is happy to run to watch the video with Olga Sergeevna, wow, the audience is crazy about this presenter.

Training by watching wot videos

There are currently two main leaders in Wargaming. Kirill Oreshkin, who was recently hired, conducts training programs and reviews of various patches, and Olga Sergeevna’s responsibilities include world of tanks news.

Olga Sergeevna is incredibly popular among World of Tanks users. We talked with the famous gaming presenter about games and “leveling up” in real life, and also learned about the sometimes difficult work of the WoT video editor.

- How did you come to “tanks”?

I graduated from university and, like any normal person, was looking for a job. I am a translator by training, and I have no problems with English, so I chose translation agencies. But the prospect of sitting, working and translating texts, no matter how interesting they may be, is a little boring. I didn’t know about World of Tanks then, because the “tanks” had just launched, probably a year had passed at most. At that time, the project had already been launched in Europe and the USA and specialists were really needed. But since there were no specialists, we all worked from Minsk. Therefore, the company was actively looking for people who could help users in Europe and America, but who were locally located here and fluent in English.

A girl called me and asked: “Do you know something about us?” - "Not yet". - “Do you play video games?” - “Well, in general, yes. To different ones." I had no passion for any genre.

Did I want to work in customer service? I immediately thought that this was not what I expected. Where are my translations, what will I do? But over time I realized that it was interesting. A young, excellent team: everyone is so creative and cheerful, everyone is “carrying something”, they work with enthusiasm. It turned out to be contagious - I also began to come up with different things. And it all ended very successfully.

- What games did you play?

I didn't have a specific passion for any genres. Except, perhaps, racing - I completed all of Need for Speed. My favorite was NFS Underground, where you could “pump up” cars and there was a “ron-don-don” song.

I only had consoles when I was a child, Dendy and Sega. There was little choice - fights, tanks and some “Chip and Dale” and “DuckTales”, in which they save the world. My father and I went through tanks five times.

Naturally, the Sims did not bypass me later. I knew this cheat with an exclamation mark. It took a very long time to introduce, and you immediately had a lot of money - you could build the house you wanted, you could make a lot of friends in order to get a normal job.

I want to try GTA 5, but I don’t have a console. They also took several Guinness records. Judging by previous versions, the game will run great. You need to either rent or buy to go through it all.

- Do you often play World of Tanks?

I used to play often, but now I play a little less. Well, of course, there’s a lot of work too. At the moment I have about three thousand fights on my ru-account. When I worked in European and American technical support, there were still fights there, but that was two years ago. I just left technical support and started doing something else. Then planes and card WoT Generals appeared, and many other interesting things.

“Tanks” are more familiar, because you already know the correct tactics of the game, so to speak, the strategy. But you still need to learn about airplanes, Generals are very interesting, but there are things that need to be improved. In general, you need to learn to play the rest, but “tanks” are now the most established product. Tank girls, why not?

I was even taught how to drive a real T-72 tank when we went to Pechi with e-sportsmen. First, we learned to drive a tank on a simulator. The controls are like in a real tank, but instead of a real triplex, you see how your tank drives on the screen.

In the army, unfortunately, you cannot be a driver if you are a girl. I was only put in a real tank as a commander, and I told where to go.

- How did this happen?

At one of the corporate events I met the guys from the video department. In the process, it turned out that they wanted to produce a new type of content - video news - and were looking for a presenter. Since I was very active with them, they decided to try me as a leader. So I started reporting the news, and everything started spinning.

Since I performed well in technical support, many departments wanted to lure me away. As a result, the deputy director for global operations came and offered to become his assistant. I thought, much higher, and agreed. I still work in this position and at the same time I do news.

We often go to exhibitions and report from them. It turned out that I unexpectedly became a media person.

- What is the reason for such rapid popularity among “tankers”?

I have always been against standard presenters, beautiful and made up, for example, like on MUZ-TV. Of course, I took a little example from them, but I tried to bring my own. Due to my character, it turned out that I made a lot of faces and generally behaved extremely actively.

At the end of each newscast, we added clips of what didn't work out, like in a Jackie Chan movie. And these moments probably brought popularity.

- How does the company make videos?

You always think about how to present the material so that people are interested. This is especially true for exhibitions, because they are all the same. Almost the same companies, the same products. You need to try to show something really interesting.

A three-minute video requires a lot of footage. What should I do? Come up with words, go out and say it. The real heroes here, of course, are our videographers. But they work day and night to shoot beautifully, come up with something and make good content. It costs a lot.

We should not forget that for me, working as a video presenter is really more fun, but there is also a main job - helping the deputy director. It is much more diverse and multifaceted. There is a lot to learn, it is difficult and interesting at the same time. I believe that when we all go to work, the goal should be development. We must learn something new. Even if it’s difficult, there is fun when you “pump up” to a new level. For me, work is like playing tanks. You need to constantly “pump up” and upgrade.

- How many people work on the video?

It depends on the video. News release is one thing, reporting from an exhibition is completely different. I’ll tell you using the example of a news release. There is a producer who roughly outlines the topics and draws up a script. He negotiates with the people he wants to interview and selects speakers. For example, a new office has appeared - Gas Powered Games. We need Chris Taylor. You call or write to him, asking him to film. A team of operators from our or the American office is visiting him.

Then comes the collection of material: we film a new office or gameplay, new features of games. For this, there is also a dedicated team of people who sits in the trunk and looks at how to show all this in the new version of the game. Then the screenwriters join in and write a detailed script. Now we need to translate all this into other languages - here a team of translators gets involved. We send videos to other offices for proofreading by native speakers.

Next comes the voice acting. Our favorite voice for all English-speaking people is Ruslan Gabidullin from Cube in a Cube. True, when you listen to all this, you involuntarily ask yourself: “What’s the guy from Breaking Bad doing in the news?”

Finally, we add subtitles in Japanese, Korean, English, Chinese... The video is ready! In general, a group of 7-15 people with the participation of outsourcers works on the video.

- Where is WG TV heading?

During my work, the WG TV project has already developed quite a bit. And we started with four operators and a presenter, then that was enough. Then we added video guides on the game (how to best use equipment and behave on the map), and a program with the best replays of the week. Now we have enough videos about World of Tanks, World of Warplanes, and global company news. We also use crowdsourcing; our players send their videos, cartoons and guides.

We have 1.25 million subscribers on the Russian YouTube account alone. If the video is outstanding, it easily gets a million views, on average 350-500 thousand. Currently, the video department employs 40 people.

- How do you like the new comment system on YouTube, designed to increase the meaningfulness of the discussion?

We read comments and only provide constructive criticism. And when they write to the point, we acknowledge and try to improve the production.

Of course, we need to see how it will work. After all, most of the comments are “ololo-trololo-holivar”, like a big interjection.

Some write very large comments with criticism that is based on water. I don't think it will be filtered somehow. So you will need to read everything and look for something constructive in a pile of emotions as before.

How do you feel about the fact that “tanks” may even have competitors? For example, the same Gaijin Entertainment with War Thunder.

Did you collect candy wrappers as a child?

- No.

And when you bought chewing gum and came across a repeat candy wrapper, what did you do with it?

- I burned it.

World of Tanks is a unique project that occupied its niche and was the first. Everything else that appears is repetition.

But, on the other hand, competitors are a plus for us: we see that something must be missing and it can be improved. When we entered the market, there was no competition. We relaxedly sailed through the waves, occupied our niches there and took rewards. Now that there is competition, this is an incentive for us to run faster. I think it's great.

- What are your hobbies and what do you do in your free time?

I like traveling very much. I go to figure skating - we have opened a corporate club with professional trainers. I danced from the age of 5 to 18, but now I can’t afford it because I need to go on business trips. I still have a very warm attitude towards choreography, I try to visit all possible ballets, dance theaters and performances in order to understand it all. I know how the artists feel on stage and how good they feel when they express themselves. I would really like to have a more consistent schedule to practice dancing. This involves sacrificing one of the things I like. Either work well and be in the center of events, or do some simple work and dance. Well, for now I'm with World of Tanks.

- Do you ever encounter fans in real life?

Happens! Most often this happens at exhibitions. People go there purposefully and know that they will meet Olga Sergeevna, or Asya, or Kirill Oreshkin there and will take pictures with them. But in real life I almost never encounter it.

One time a locksmith came to me to fix a door. I gave him my passport, because you need to open the door with a registration. And he exclaimed: "ABOUT! Well, I know you, you’re Olga Sergeevna.” I was actually very pleased. But no one else will really know. And thank God!

Instead of a conclusion

I believe that World of Tanks brings people together in real life. Well, if you’re sitting there playing World of Warcraft, you’re still on your own. And here you play on a team. There are fighting friends and comrades here, and you can take a lot of useful things out of this for yourself in real life.

I think that if a game helps you find yourself, become more confident in something, find new friends, then why not? Everyone wants to prove themselves in life. And if you like to express yourself in the game, God help you.

We carefully looked at the entries for the competition of phrases for voice-over and it was on their basis that we recorded Asya, Olga Sergeevna and Kiril Oreshkin. The tank crew voice acting from WGTV for WOT 1.6.0.0 turned out to be very cool. For convenience, it was packaged in a convenient installer with the ability to select several voiceover options:

  • voice acting by Kiril Oreshkin;
  • voice acting from Olga Sergeevna;

Choose any of them and enjoy your favorite voices not only by watching videos on YouTube, but also by playing tanks. You can listen to how the voice acting will sound in the game directly in the installer without installing it. If you still can’t choose the right voice acting, then install the crew voice acting from WGTV, in it you can hear the voices of all three presenters, as well as a reputable developer.

An excellent feature of this voice acting is that by installing, for example, the voice acting from Olga Sergeevna, you can switch to any other right in the game, in the sound settings. (see screenshot below)

This is very convenient because once you install any voiceover from WG TV, you immediately get 5 different voiceovers that can be switched directly in battle. I think this pack of sound mods will last you a long time.
