Participant of Project 5-100 (Project to increase the competitiveness of leading Russian universities among the world's leading scientific and educational centers). Since September 1, 2017, the Ural Federal University has the right to independently award academic degrees.

Short description

Ural Federal University is the largest university in the Urals, a leading scientific and educational center in the region and one of the largest universities in the Russian Federation. About 35,000 "https://urfu.ru/ru/about/today/" students study there, including about 32,000 full-time students (according to this indicator, UrFU is comparable only with Moscow State University, St. Petersburg State University and Southern Federal University). Educational process provide more than 4,000 teachers, among them more than 650 doctors of science and about 2,100 candidates of science, more than 30 members of state academies.Training is carried out in 64 undergraduate areas, 26 master's areas, 126 postgraduate specialties and 42 doctoral specialties.The university has 30 dissertation councils.

In July 2013, UrFU became one of 15 universities in the Russian Federation that received the right to additional funding as part of the competition for entry into world university rankings. .

Until the beginning of 2013, there was a post of president of the university; since the establishment of the post, the duties of the president were performed by Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences Stanislav Stepanovich Naboychenko, former rector of USTU-UPI.

History of creation

In subsequent years, the following faculties were created (or restored) at the institute: geological exploration, mining, forestry, and mechanical engineering. In 1929, the Faculty of Construction was created, and the Chemical and Metallurgical Faculty was divided into chemical and metallurgical faculties. In 1930, during the reform of higher education (Resolution of the Central Executive Committee of the USSR and the Council of People's Commissars of the USSR of July 23, 1930 “On the reorganization of universities, technical schools and workers' faculties”), UPI was divided into 10 institutes (universities). [ ]

UPI and Ural State University

In 1931, Sverdlovsk State University was restored as an independent university (in 1936 it was named after A. M. Gorky, who took an active part in organizing the Ural University in 1920). On June 22, 1934, UPI was recreated on the basis of 7 out of 10 universities, and then it became known as the Ural Industrial Institute (UII) (in 1934 the institute was named after S. M. Kirov).

Thus, starting from the mid-1930s, there were two independent large universities in Sverdlovsk. In 1945, Sverdlovsk State University was renamed the Ural State University named after A. M. Gorky. In turn, in 1948, the Ural Industrial University was again renamed the Ural Polytechnic Institute (UPI). On December 24, 1992, UPI was transformed into the Ural State Technical University (USTU) (order of the Ministry of Science, Higher Education and Technical Policy of the Russian Federation dated December 24, 1992 No. 1133). On April 23, 2008, the Ural State Technical University was named after its graduate Boris Yeltsin [ ] .

Big Eurasian University

In the early 2000s, the administration of the Sverdlovsk region and the leadership of the two largest universities in Yekaterinburg - USTU-UPI and USU - had the idea of creating the Big Eurasian State University (BEGU) by combining technical and classical universities, as well as a number of other universities. The university project included the construction of a university campus on the site of a forest behind Maly Shartash Lake and was included in the master plan for the development of Yekaterinburg. Despite the support of the regional leadership (E. E. Rossel), the construction of BEGU was viewed with skepticism at the state university; supporters of integration were defeated in the rector elections in 2007. In December 2008, the closure of the BEGU project was announced and the formation of the Ural Federal University on the basis of the developments made (Ural Federal University). The new concept is less ambitious, but is supported by the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation. [ ]

Creation of the Federal University

Subsequently (in light of the organization of federal universities in Russia), it was decided to petition for the creation of a federal university on the basis of two universities.

The Ural Federal University named after the first President of Russia B. N. Yeltsin was founded by decree of the President of the Russian Federation D. A. Medvedev No. 1172 of October 21, 2009. According to the Presidential Decree, UrFU was created on the basis of the state educational institution of higher professional education “Ural State Technical University - UPI named after the first President of Russia B.N. Yeltsin."

On April 8, 2010, Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin in Novosibirsk (at a meeting on the modernization of higher professional education in Russia) announced the appointment of the former head of the government of the Sverdlovsk region, candidate of historical sciences Viktor Koksharov to the post of rector of the Ural Federal University. The order was signed on April 9.

In August 2017, a decision of the Government of the Russian Federation was published, which allowed the Ural Federal University to independently award academic degrees from September 1, 2017.

UrFU and UMMC Technical University

The Ural Federal University played a significant role in the creation of the only private technical university in Russia - the UMMC Technical University. In the summer of 2013, at the Innoprom-2013 exhibition, an agreement was concluded between UMMC and UrFU on the creation of a special department “Metallurgy” for the new university. In addition, the Ural Federal University allocated 176 million rubles for the creation of this university, which opened in September of the same year. On September 2, 2014, a Research Center was opened at the UMMC Technical University. The close connection between the two universities is expressed in the fact that the functioning of the center is supported by the UrFU Department of Metallurgy, created in 2013 (it is headed by the director of the Institute of Materials Science and Metallurgy of UrFU, Doctor of Technical Sciences V. A. Maltsev) and the Uralelectromed Joint Stock Company, which is part of the UMMC. UrFU purchased special scientific equipment, spending 171 million rubles on it, and UMMC allocated 200 million rubles. for the construction and equipment of a 4-story building.

Position in ratings

Currently, in many rankings of UrFU (USTU-UPI) and USU named after. Gorky are still counted as separate universities. The exception is, in particular, the world ranking QS World University Rankings. In 2011, in the QS ranking, the Ural Federal University ranks 451-500, that is, it is included in the Top 500 (in total, the positions of 712 universities in the world are taken into account). This same group includes, for example, Shanghai University, University of Salamanca, University of Vermont, Belarusian State University, etc. Among all Russian universities, UrFU was sixth, ahead only of Moscow State University, St. Petersburg State University, Moscow State Technical University, MGIMO and NSU. In 2012, UrFU retained its 451-500th place, bypassing, for example, universities such as RUDN University (537th place), Higher School of Economics (542nd place), Tomsk State University (580th place), Kazan Federal University (663rd place). At the same time, in the QS ranking, UrFU is the leader in the ranking among all Russian federal universities. In 2013, in the QS ranking, UrFU found itself in the 501-550 group, although it remained the leader among federal universities in Russia and the second non-metropolitan university in the top ten.

The Republican Research Scientific Consulting Center for Expertise (FGU SRI RINCCE) included UrFU among the five Russian universities that most effectively develop their innovative activities. According to relevant key indicators, UrFU took fourth place after Moscow State University, Tomsk State University and Moscow State Technical University. According to the Research Institute RINCCE, in 2010 UrFU produced work and services worth 14.6 million rubles and products worth 17.7 million rubles. At Moscow State University the same figures amounted to 1.04 million and 5 billion, respectively, at TSU - 1.08 billion and 214 million rubles, at MSTU - 1.8 billion and 1.7 million rubles. At the same time, in terms of the number of projects being implemented (101 and 134, respectively), UrFU came close to TSU and surpassed MSU and MSTU (96 and 3, respectively). At the same time, UrFU received 34.3 million rubles from the state budget in 2010 for the development of innovative infrastructure, while Moscow and Tomsk universities received 42.9 million rubles each.

In 2015, the university lost its position in the QS World University Ranking. UrFU shares the 601-650 position with other universities, while a year earlier it was in 551 position. In addition to the QS ranking, there is a Shanghai ranking, in which the Ural Federal University ranks 901st. In the ranking of universities in the BRICS countries, the educational institution is on line 77, and in the ranking of higher educational institutions in Russia it is on line 13 [ ] .

UrFU and FSB

In 2016, the Ural Federal University published documents from which it follows that the university has departments whose heads are appointed to positions only in agreement with the FSB. According to media reports, as of 2016, many current and former FSB employees and their relatives held positions in the rector’s office of UrFU: Vice-Rector for General Affairs V. Kozlov, Advisor to the Rector V. Ilyinykh, Deputy Vice-Rector K. Polovnev.

Video surveillance at lectures

As of 2017, the university maintained “security” video surveillance in 100 of its 500 classrooms. This practice has existed (according to data reported by the university press secretary in May 2017) for about three years. Since 2017, broadcasting of lecture recordings from these cameras has begun.

Awards

University problems

As of March 2016, the rectorate of UrFU included: 1 rector, 2 first vice-rectors, 3 deputy first vice-rectors, 7 vice-rectors and 10 deputy vice-rectors. Such strange positions as deputy vice-rector (essentially deputy deputy rector) arose as a result of the merger of two universities, when new managerial positions had to be created for former vice-rectors. For example, the USU Vice-Rector for Research A. O. Ivanov became the Deputy Vice-Rector for Science at UrFU. At the end of 2015, out of 9,187 employee rates in UrFU, 1,292 rates were for administrative and managerial personnel. Thus, the administrative apparatus made up about 14% of the university’s employees. There were almost half as many researchers at the university - 670 positions at the end of 2015.

At the beginning of 2015, the salary for a teacher with an academic degree was set at about 14.5 thousand rubles. At the same time, the real salaries of professors with all allowances were almost no different from low salaries. In September 2015, for half the rate of a professor with a Doctor of Science degree, the university pays only 12 thousand rubles per month. In September 2015, it was decided to reduce these salaries by transferring some teachers to one-eighth of the rate (a professor with such a workload receives about 3 thousand rubles), for which teachers were asked to change their employment contracts. At the same time, the university used a methodology for calculating workload, where 159 hours of teaching load per year for a professor is one-eighth of the teaching load at the post (900 hours per year). Young associate professor, candidate of sciences A.V. Ladygin earned 232.5 thousand rubles from UrFU in 2015, that is, on average less than 20 thousand rubles. per month . The rector of UrFU earned 11.845 million rubles in 2014. In 2015, the rector’s income already exceeded 12.8 million rubles.

In 2015, an assistant professor at UrFU was sentenced to 3.5 years in a general regime colony with a fine for taking bribes in the period from 2012 to 2013, which she took for taking tests without testing knowledge. According to the court decision, one of the vice-rectors for academic affairs of UrFU filed a complaint against her to law enforcement agencies. On appeal, the Sverdlovsk Regional Court reduced the punishment to a fine and reclassified her actions as fraud.

In October 2017, the Minister of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, Olga Vasilyeva, stated that the Ural Federal University does not meet ministerial ideas about efficiency.

I’m a 3rd year student at the Higher School of Economics and Management – I like everything. Teachers explain the material they are studying well and help them write scientific articles that can then be published - this is valuable practice for students. The time schedule for couples is convenient - you can combine it with work or part-time work. The downside is that sometimes couples are placed in the building at a different address; it is not always convenient to travel to different places. The dean's office is always ready to help with any questions students may have. You can study in your free time in the library or in a coworking area. The university also has a vibrant extracurricular life - the UrFU Ball, various events, conferences are held, there is the opportunity to go to a camp with a student group, go to work at a construction site or as a conductor on a train. The university provides many opportunities to express yourself and learn something. Some dormitories are quite old, have cockroaches, and need renovation.

The Institute of Radio Electronics and Information Technologies of UrFU is a great, high-quality combination of teachers, students and the management of the institute. The institute does not stand still - it uses different approaches to teaching students and improving the qualifications of teachers. Graduates of the institute, either as students or upon completion, easily find a job in an IT company. IRIT-RTF students are always among the leaders at the university and represent it at all-Russian and international events. In general, UrFU is a worthy university, Yekaterinburg is an excellent city. Nonresidents are provided with a hostel and each institute has its own hostel, not far from the university. The university is developing noticeably; when I first entered there were regular whiteboards everywhere, but now it’s mostly interactive whiteboards and projectors. Changes are taking place for the better in both nutrition and comfort.

I study full-time at the Institute of New Materials and Technologies. This is my first higher education (bachelor's degree, 4 years of study). I am studying in the field of metallurgy. What can I say about the university? The teachers are real pros, at least in my department J. They share their knowledge and invaluable practical experience. As for the material equipment, there is everything you need: an electronic library (books, lectures, scientific articles), a classroom fund, projectors (for lectures in the form of presentations), etc. It is very interesting to study, various conferences are constantly held, and very often metallurgical companies organize engineering competitions with cash prizes, as well as the opportunity to get a job offer in one of the leading companies. The institute is interested in the further employment of its graduates, so employers are often invited. Also, new modern and comfortable dormitories are being built for out-of-town students. The last of these was hostel No. 8, where I live, it is of a block type, 2-3 people live in rooms. It has all the necessary conditions for a comfortable stay for students. UrFU education is valued not only throughout Russia, but throughout the world. They recognize our university and it’s cool, I’m proud)!!!

Olesya Rudakova 03/06/2019 19:48

In general, I can characterize my university as very good, and my institute, INMT, as excellent. I’m happy that I chose UrFU, graduated from this university, received a decent education and filled my head with a huge amount of really necessary knowledge (if anything, I graduated from the field of information systems and technologies in metallurgy). It was difficult to enroll, but it was worth it) I passed every subject of the Unified State Exam with a score of 70+. Advantages of studying: versatile education, good teaching both from a theoretical point of view and, what is very important, a lot of practice, they provide very deep knowledge, a very strong teaching staff, in-depth study of the necessary disciplines (economics, law, languages) if necessary.

Since the beginning of my first year of undergraduate studies, I have been thinking about an important question: “What do I want to achieve through education?” The answer was very simple: I want a prestigious job with a decent salary. And since I liked the field of energy and finance, I considered these areas. Now I am studying on a budget basis in the Energy Business program at the INZHEK REC. In my opinion, this is the best department that trains energy engineers and managers at the same time. Currently I work in the Investment Department of JSC Ekaterinburg Electric Grid Company. I got a job immediately two days after receiving my diploma. I thought it would be difficult to combine study, work, and personal life, but every weekday I manage to have coffee with friends, attend a piano evening, and also go to the movies :)

Good afternoon Let me start by saying that it’s a shame for the country. It's just a shame. Everything is bought and sold and no one is shy. And those who are not for sale simply do not want to work. They created a “brand” and sell it. This has long been a huge dishonest business, not education. Let's take full-time, 1st year, we write coursework: in the same Peda, the teacher communicates with you, personally, PERSONALLY (it's probably not in vain that you're wasting time and money in class), explains what and how to do, instructs you, supervises you. What's going on here? 1st year, there was no practical training yet, no experience in writing coursework, no one wants to see students in person, the teacher is overdue for all deadlines for issuing assignments, checking and submitting work. Who is to blame and who suffers? Naturally a student. There is no place to complain. And no one cares anymore, a three is enough, as long as they don’t torture you for nothing. Then they wonder why people order and rent out other people’s work for money. There is practically no decent education in the country. And this review describes only a drop in the bucket. Nobody wants to work, but only to steal. You know, it’s a shame to the point of tears. It's a shame for the country. Do we have a future?

hmm.. I was disappointed in this university upon admission, so to speak, the attitude was not the best, they immediately found fault with the documents, shouted at me saying that photos, sign the documents, photocopies are not all, and even after I passed the test and was on the list of applicants for the budget in terms of points is in 8th or 9th place among all, the submission of originals should have been closed on 08/12/16... they assured me that after 08/12/16 they would no longer accept documents from those applying for the Unified State Exam. and what do you think on 08/19/16 a girl appears on the list for the budget, naturally I dropped out of the competition, but she was included in the competition, although according to the rules they should not have taken her, she was late, which led me to the conclusion that this was my person through connections they stuck it in.. the university is engaged in freezing out money, in Moscow they teach this specialty much cheaper, where can I get 77,400 a year? but to study for 5 years... it’s a bit far to Moscow, but here it’s closer, I already traveled for almost a day to enroll and stuck around for 3 days to pass mathematics, because I didn’t have enough points for the Unified State Exam... in the end, what? someone gave someone a good paw and that’s it!!

Maria Nikitina 03/10/2018 21:41

The admissions committee does not work smoothly. I called in advance to clarify because I have benefits. Having collected the documents, I arrived at the university and they told me everything is wrong, where did you get these documents from, we need others. By the way, I’m from the region and drove 7 hours. I said that these documents were transferred to me by the secretary. To which I received the answer: maybe you didn’t call us. Study began.... The Russian language teacher said that we are the elite only because we entered Urfa. At that time I had a graduate degree and I want to say in college the teachers were more competent. And the learning process was many times more interesting. In a foreign language, the teacher could insult a dumb person or even worse. Many people would like to learn Russian...not everyone always succeeds. The dean's office always knows nothing. I waited a month and a half for the documents and order of expulsion. I took the documents myself because I didn’t like either the studies or the teaching staff. As a result, the order wrote about non-fulfillment of the curriculum. I maintain relationships with my classmates; 70 percent of them are not happy with the university. I also learned that 17 people left two groups in our direction. I think that this is an indicator that really smart guys left and not slobs.

Arina Smirnova 01/11/2018 07:14

Good afternoon I am a student at UrFU and am in my 3rd year. I would like to tell you about the university for future generations of applicants) UrFU is a worthy Ural university. By enrolling here, you are guaranteed to receive a quality education, which is valued not only in Russia, but also in foreign countries. I myself went on an exchange to Bulgaria in my 2nd year. for six months, they consider our university very promising for training scientific personnel, of course there are also disadvantages, for example, dormitories, but recently the university management has been trying to improve, a new dormitory was built last year, so I think it’s worth considering this university for admissions and training!

I like studying at UrFU. There is always such a cozy atmosphere here. I love my group, our friendly get-togethers in the canteen, heated discussions, and polemics at seminars. It is very interesting to constantly discover something new, previously unexplored. Thanks to the teachers for their patience and desire to help. UrFU! Thanks for the new friends! Thank you for the knowledge that we take from you for free! You are the best university!

Marina Antipova 08/30/2017 15:34

The university is certainly not bad, it provides a really high-quality education! Qualified teachers, new technology, new manuals, BUT in relation to students, this is not the best university, even though it is Federal! In the first year, almost everyone who wants to is accommodated, and then there are guys from the 50 km mark, some people think that this is not a lot, but you will ride every day, especially if difficult pairs and practices drag on until the evening. The second year comes and this is where the problems begin! First of all, they accommodate first-year students, until everything seems logical, then they accommodate foreign students ONE BY ONE in a room designed for FOUR Russian students! Well, then, if you are active, participate in non-academic activities, earn points, I REPEAT NOT BY STUDYING, then they give you a place, of course, you must close the session without C grades, but if there is a person with only B grades, but is very active and you, who only one 4, sorry, but the choice is not yours. This continues for another 3 years, yes, exactly 3, even in the LAST 4th year, when people have a diploma on their noses, they are denied places. It is also worth noting that the dorms are half empty; on our floor (in the last year) out of 5 rooms, 2 were occupied, and the situation is approximately the same on other floors. The rooms are not rented out due to some mythical renovation, which I personally saw once in 3 stays and then... the guys lived in these rooms and were moved to others for a week of renovation.

In general, in terms of STUDIES, this university wins among many, but if you are counting on a stable place in the hostel, then this is definitely NOT UrFU.

Egor Andreev 07/27/2017 08:57

Graduated from the first year of Physics and Technology at UrFU, majoring in applied mathematics and physics. It is difficult to evaluate studies at UrFU in other areas, since mine is very strong and very difficult. Unlike other groups, we had more practice and theory, which made us an extremely strong group. All 24 people completed the session 1 time in all subjects. Among our teachers there are candidates and doctors of science. In general, if you want serious training, then you don’t need to go to Moscow or St. Petersburg. We have a serious theoretical direction in the Urals.

I graduated from the radio department this year. I will say this - the training was not easy, but I never regretted my choice. Radik is the best. I was very lucky with the group, the teachers are also excellent, in general there were only positive emotions and memories about UrFU. I already miss the native walls of the university and our canteen, I would like to repeat these 4 years again, but now it’s time to set off on a free voyage and look for work. Thanks to the UrFU job fair and reviews from senior students, pah-pah-pah there is an opportunity to choose an enterprise.

A little about myself: I am a 1st year public sector student at UPI IRIT-RTF, who completed the winter session with excellent marks.

In short, the university is crap! Do not submit documents here under any circumstances, do not repeat our mistakes (as students)! If it’s full, then sit down more comfortably and I’ll take you through all the sweet corners of this institute - let’s go. Everything that I write below will be only my opinion and describe the situation at the “faculty” of IRIT-RtF and hostel No. 11.

1. Level of training. The university's motto is "You can't teach, you can only learn!" The information is presented in a “bare” and incomprehensible form, absolutely nothing is explained (lectures are read from projector slides in electronic form), and no one cares about the tests one after another and how to write them, and then you have to sit there all day and night long (this is during the semester itself, not even a session yet!) and study the topic INDEPENDENTLY and write a test on it for at least a low score. No consultations! The bottom line on this point is that no one will teach you, you will be forced to teach yourself so as not to be expelled.

2. Attitude towards students. Students are like light bulbs on everyone. Who you are and what happens to you in your studies are purely your problems.

3. A standard (academic) scholarship is paid to everyone with all the rules, as in other universities (2100 rubles). But suddenly, you decide to go for an increased scholarship, then you will go through 7 circles of hell and the funny thing is, you won’t get anything! The information on the website (orders, regulations, etc.) is mostly no longer relevant, and as a result, an applicant, reading the regulations on the website and counting on something, will not receive anything, explaining this in one phrase - “the provisions are outdated, there are no new orders we don’t exist, and the university doesn’t have any money at all to pay any increased scholarships.” This is what they did to me and many other excellent students. As for the increased scholarship of 10,000 rubles for those with 250+ Unified State Exam points, this is indeed true. But only up to the 1st session, then if you haven’t completed the winter session with flying colors, bye bye. The bottom line on this point is that while you are an applicant, everyone needs you and you will be attracted in every possible way; when you are a student, you are nobody. No one will help you and no one will give you anything.

4. The attitude of employees in internal departments is boorish and ugly! They never know anything and are always sending (redirecting) to other departments, supposedly they will tell you there, but there the situation repeats itself and so on in a vicious circle. The result is an unqualified composition of employees at the “faculty” of IRIT-RTF.

5. Dormitory. I could talk about this all day long, but I’ll try to keep it short. So, if YOU ARE NOT A FOREIGN applicant, then you will live in the most barracks conditions, in complete unsanitary conditions, and at night you will wake up and throw off a couple of cockroaches, because there are sooooo many of them in the hostel and no treatments are carried out. The furniture is all old and in addition there is almost none in the rooms (you have to buy and bring your own), there are still mice running around. The walls are very thin, any conversation from the next room is clearly audible, and it is completely impossible to sleep at night; in the end, everything turns into a big conflict. Repairs were carried out only on the 4th and 5th floors of the hostel, where foreigners are accommodated. It’s impossible for a Russian freshman to get there! The result is that you will be accommodated in the 1st year, in the 2nd year with a huge question, and whether you still have the desire to live in a dormitory after a year is also a big question.

And once again - Conclusion: Do not submit documents here under any circumstances, do not repeat our mistakes (as students)! There are many alternatives to this institute with the same passing grade, and with much better conditions in all respects. And I myself am planning to transfer to another university.

P.S. Wonderful cloakroom attendants work at IRIT-RTF. May God give them health and all the best. These are truly wonderful people, looking at whom you want to live and smile.

I graduated from the Linguistics Institute at UrFU (4 years). It's horrible!!! Education - ZERO! The direction itself is exaggerated, in some cunning way opened at the Faculty of Education. There is nothing philological here related to real science and the study of languages - just rudeness, endless attacks from the academic director and the academic secretary, presenting old grievances at the state and the defense of the diploma. The friend graduated from language in ped, I really regret that I didn’t go there ((

UrFU. Lately, this university has always appeared everywhere. Because of the quality of teaching? Because of educational programs? Absolutely not. Who knows, maybe they have everything paid for, but the fact is that the quality of education has begun to rapidly decline in recent years. Most graduates receive diplomas (with excellent or good grades!!!), but have no idea why. There is emptiness in their heads, there are a lot of such examples, even myself. I will not be modest, I will say that both I and the guys with whom I studied are smart, joyful people, from good families, graduates of prestigious gymnasiums and lyceums. However, we left the university and realized that we had not understood anything. We studied, did something these five years, tried, studied. But now we can’t even imagine where and with whom we can work in our specialty! Most of my classmates entered UrFU, we communicate, meet, and share our impressions. And so we gathered again. I was shocked! All these people don't know what they were taught! It's just a shame that entire generations are killing themselves at this university. Last year, guys I knew came in after great results in a test drive. We went there full of ambitions and plans for life. By the middle of the school year, they began to say with regret that the university was not justifying itself, studying was boring, absolutely uninteresting, and life had become no joy. And okay, it would just be boring, studying is not always fun, but then they began to understand that they were not being taught anything. One even left the most prestigious faculty and re-enrolled this year. They say about teachers: “Whoever does not die, has left.” Corruption is rampant. Sometimes an entire group fails exams (a friend, for example, had this happen twice). They go to exams with gifts and give surprises to teachers. And it turns out to be knocked out automatically! How can you learn like this? I don’t understand what can remain in the minds of those who do this. Although we didn’t really do this much (I admit, we once had such a practice), but we don’t have anything in our heads either. And what’s most interesting is that no one stops this; teachers only look at the gifts with gratitude and let the students go far away. All teachers send their younger brother and sister (they are pretty smart kids, and their teachers have high hopes) either abroad or to St. Petersburg/Novosibirsk. Novosibirsk has a large scientific base; they teach well in a variety of areas. Both technically developed and medicine. This is what the guys need. There’s probably no need to talk about St. Petersburg, and it’s clear that education there is up to par. Czech Republic, Germany. Austria, Switzerland, Great Britain are ready to accept the guys, they speak languages, so most likely we will send them there. It really becomes scary when you see the guys participating in this notorious test drive, whose eyes are burning, who have a lot of thoughts, plans and ideas, who are young and interesting... And who enter this university. I don’t want them to form an opinion about life from these 17-18 years, like, disappointment is everywhere, no one really needs you, do as you want, no one here wants to teach you anything. A separate story with all sorts of preparatory courses. During the first lessons, the children are told about the programs for an hour and a half, initially saying that the classes are paid for by the budget, and after submitting applications, everyone suddenly finds out that the courses cost 15,890 rubles per year! And this is only for one subject. So at present there is nothing to do at HSE or UPI. It’s more difficult for me to talk about the humanities, since I don’t have many acquaintances there, but, it seems, African studies is more or less well developed, everyone wants to learn the Korean language, yes. Think for yourself, decide for yourself, but my advice to you: I, as a person representing my fellow UrFU graduates, tell you - run! If you don't want to kill yourself and your potential here, then look for educational institutions that are truly worthy of you! Good luck!

On March 29, we attended an open day, my daughter is studying in the 10th grade, until March 29 she couldn’t choose her future profession, we decided to go to UrFU to see what’s going on, my daughter took with her a friend who wants to study to become a programmer... We have 550 km to travel, or 8 hours, so we left on the 28th with the expectation of spending the night in Yekaterinburg. We arrived, rented an apartment, walked around the city, everything was beautiful, clean and in general we and the children liked it.. we chose the institutes we wanted to go to for the open day: there-mech, energy and construction; the first one was mat-mech at 11.00 - the children liked it , the director spoke normally, everything was clearly explained, and he and his assistants, the girls came out inspired and said that that’s it, they had decided that they would go to study in mathematics and mechanics... (+) I promised them that the rest would also be interesting... in There was no RTF in our plan, because they collected on the 30th at 12.00 and we just can’t get in because we have to go home, we tried to find the building where the RTF is located, but no one said anything intelligible..... we walked for an hour and couldn’t find it.... we went to the admissions office , asked for brochures on RTF, the woman said that she didn’t have any brochures, if you have questions, look on the website.... to my question, why then an open house if they have everything on the website, she shrugged and said that it wasn’t her idea ... that was the first unpleasant moment. (-) Then we had lunch in the dining room, the food was delicious, filling and not too expensive. (+) at 14.00 we went to a meeting with power engineers. the director was unable to communicate with the audience, and neither were the other teachers, the girls were bored after the fur, it was like a tub of cold water, (-) they scared them off more than they lured them into their institute, in the end they said if anyone is interested, we’ll gather in groups in the foyer and let’s go in the classrooms, we went out to look at this case, we couldn’t go ourselves because... They also wanted to look at the builders. 3-4 crowds actually gathered in the foyer; those who barked stood with their hands raised high, with the names of the faculties on white sheets of paper. the builders upset me even more, I thought there would be no one worse than the power engineers, I was mistaken... the director of the institute immediately said that there were no representatives from several faculties, because he doesn’t see them in the hall... they started talking further, the young dean was trying to connect something, talking about numbers. 2 more teachers said nothing at all, introduced themselves and said that after everything they would take everyone to the department and you need to “watch your hand”, i.e. There weren’t even pieces of paper with the names of the faculties... (-) in total, for visiting URFU I gave 2 pluses and 3 minuses. The children liked it on the mat-mech. I also campaigned a little for construction because I know that these are interesting professions and are always in demand, but after the speakers’ speeches I couldn’t change the girls’ minds... I’ll also say that the school where our children study is not the weakest and I’m not worried about the Unified State Exam at all, moreover, I think that 240-250 points is not for us problem. at the end of April we will go to open days in Kazan... if we like it there more. then.... URFU sorry, you didn’t impress us.

The first couple of months are a delight. Until you get tired and notice the peeling ceilings, disgusting desks and teachers who have long lost their qualifications or have not acquired them. There is corruption, sometimes the entire group buys the exam completely. There is an established tradition of bringing gifts to exams. Most teachers don't care about students and work on a "like/dislike" basis. Lectures are boring and after the 1st month half of the class doesn’t show up. The hostels are 4 out of 10. Of course, there are positive aspects, but they are few and worth looking at under a magnifying glass.

The Ural Federal University named after the First President of Russia B. N. Yeltsin appeared quite recently; only in 2009, by decree of the President of the Russian Federation D. A. Medvedev, a new university was created on the basis of USTU-UPI. Later, in 2011, it was joined by one of the best universities in the Urals - Ural State University named after. A.M. Gorky. But, despite its short history, UrFU is extremely popular among applicants. And the achievements of those who have already joined the ranks of students and graduates are a source of pride for the entire Ural Federal District. But let’s start in order and tell you what awaits everyone who receives a student card with the letter “U” next to the photo.

Admission to a university is one of the most important and exciting stages of studying at the university. Most applicants prepare for it in advance, devoting their free time from school to tutors and preparatory courses. As a result, every year certificates with high Unified State Examination results open the way to the beginning of a new life within the university for approximately 4,000 applicants. So, for example, in 2012, there were 4,237 people enrolled in full-time education, including 75 students who entered my specialty - “public relations”.

Not only yesterday's schoolchildren of the Ural Federal District dream of becoming students of one of the ten best universities in the country. Almost half of my group are nonresident students from Almaty, Irkutsk, Khabarovsk, Surgut, and Moscow. Out of 30 classmates, only 7 people are indigenous residents of Yekaterinburg, but this is not at all intimidating, but on the contrary, it gives a unique opportunity to get acquainted with the culture and traditions of other nationalities of our country. We get to know each other during a huge number of extracurricular activities and holidays. Our graduating class will forever remember the evening when, in the arena of the city circus, we became the owners of the prestigious title - “The best business card of the faculty.” Hours of rehearsals, selection of costumes, painted banners and loud chants made it possible to become the best of the best at the freshmen parade.

But a fun student life is not the only thing that awaits you on the way to receiving the coveted diploma. Every six months, everyone faces tests of endurance: non-stop tests do not allow you to even think about sleep for a whole week, and the session immediately following them forces you to continuously read professional literature. Unfortunately, many are exhausted or simply rely on the great Freebie, and by the end of the training, exactly half of us remain. Only 15 out of 30 applicants reach the finish line. Studying is not always easy: along with disciplines where the student’s very presence in classes allows him to get the coveted “pass”, there are also subjects that have to be taken more than once. There was a case in my learning history when I had to take a seemingly simple test 3 times. The very last and most successful time, I came, as they say, fully armed: I knew by heart all the lectures on the discipline that were given to us for a whole year.

The learning process is diverse - they teach absolutely everything here, because UrFU is the most classical university. Medical classes, three years of physical training, concepts of modern natural science, a comprehensive examination of the profession from different angles: mathematics, philosophy, economics - the wealth of disciplines paints a complete picture of the future profession. Teachers who not only provide a theoretical basis, but also teach how to apply knowledge in practice, also deserve high praise.

Long before graduation, many of the students begin to work, and, very importantly, in their specialty. Most large companies do not attach importance to what course you are in at the moment, the only condition is the successful combination of work and study. For employers, every UrFU student is a welcome employee on their staff. Therefore, for everyone who prioritizes professional fulfillment, UrFU will be a win-win option on the path to success.

My eldest son graduated from this university last year, and my middle son is studying now. Every year the university gets worse and worse. If during the senior’s studies everything was determined precisely by knowledge, now the qualifications of the teaching staff have decreased significantly. Young teachers cannot boast of deep knowledge and, accordingly, they cannot convey anything to students either. Young teachers try to compensate for their lack of professionalism with tyranny. The remaining few “old cadres” are unable to bring any significant improvement to the overall sad picture. This is especially true for the Department of Engineering Graphics. If the leadership of the university cannot reverse this sad trend, in a few years there will be no need to enroll in this educational institution.

I studied from 2004 to 2009 at the Ural State University. A.M. Gorky at the Faculty of History, specialty "socio-cultural service and tourism", which is now part of the UrFU, which, after the merger of UrSU and UPI, became the largest university in the city.

At the time when I entered, everyone took the most common entrance exams, because experiments with tests and the Unified State Exam were just beginning. For the specialty "socio-cultural service and tourism" it was necessary to take history (test and orally on tickets), a foreign language (orally and in writing), and Russian (essay). There were 10 budget places, and the competition was 20 people per place. Of course, it was not easy to get in, even if I graduated from school with a medal. But I managed to get into the top 10 state employees. In total, there were on average about 30-32 people in the group, i.e. Most of the students studied for free. Training took place mainly in lecture form. At the end of each semester, we took tests and exams in the subjects we had passed. Moreover, at USU there was no practice of buying tests and exams: you could earn a machine gun, but you couldn’t buy it.

For the third year now I have been working not exactly in my specialty, but also in the service sector. And the knowledge that I gained during the training process is still useful to me.

I have been a student at the Ural Federal University for almost a year now, first year. I study at the Institute of Natural Sciences, department - Physics. My specialty is Metrology and standardization. It was not very difficult to get in, with good scores for the Unified State Exam. Russian language, mathematics and physics were taken into account. A place in the hostel was provided. There are enough budget places. Studying is not difficult if you are determined to gain knowledge and want it. There are not even jokes about buying tests or exams here, not a hint that you can buy anything. The teachers are different, but the subject is always explained at the proper level and after that they demand only what they gave. The same mathematics is taught by teachers from Mat-Mech. Education is given in a wide range of fields, both in the specialty and in general subjects. There are laboratories for chemical and physical practices. The active life of students is also well organized. There are many clubs and sections. Students actively participate in the life of the university. If you are determined to get a decent education, then I advise you to enroll.

I studied at this university from 2008 to 2012, immediately after college, I decided to continue my education and entered the specialty Anti-Crisis Management (Economics and Enterprise Management) at the Faculty of Economics and Management. I studied at an evening and paid, competition, at the time of my admission there were 10 people per place. Upon admission, we passed 3 exams: physics, mathematics and Russian. The exams were held in the form of a test, easy to pass, everything was at the level of the school curriculum. We were enrolled in 3 groups, but in the end only 2 graduated. We started studying in October, we had lectures for a month, and at the end of the hours we took tests and exams, which, as it turned out, was much more convenient than taking them at the end of the semester. In general, the training went smoothly, the teaching staff was at the highest level, I would especially like to mention the teacher Davy Yuri Mikhailovich, he “fought” for every student and explained his subject perfectly. You can also do an internship at the university; they provided a database of employers with further employment; 15 of our group got jobs this way. I did the internship myself, because at the time of training I was already working. In total, during the period while I was studying, we had 8 practices, i.e. 2 per year, one industrial and the second pedagogical. After graduating from UPI, I changed my job to a better paying one in my specialty.

Named after Yeltsin (modern UrFU, former USTU, UPI) is a large educational institution in Russia, located in Yekaterinburg. Today there are about 40 thousand students and 2 thousand teachers. The university has a rich history. It started in 1920. Let's take a closer look at what events the current university has experienced.

At the origins of creation

The need for qualified mining specialists arose in the Urals in the 18th century before the abolition of serfdom in the country. Industry was concentrated in this area. Some of the workers working here included foreigners. To eliminate the shortage of personnel, towards the end of the 18th century, a mining school was opened in St. Petersburg. It trained engineers for factories and mines in the Urals. The problem with specialists was resolved, but they noticed one drawback - the personnel were trained in isolation from production practice.

In the 19th century, several mining schools were opened in the Urals, and at the end of the century, proposals to open a technical university began to be discussed. Several projects were put forward, but none of them were implemented. At the beginning of the 20th century, the mining industry of the Urals was negatively affected by the economic crisis. Due to the difficult situation, factories were closed and new construction was stopped.

The economic boom came in 1910. Industry began to recover, and the number of proposals to create a technical university in the Urals increased. The event associated with the founding of the educational institution occurred in 1920. An educational organization began to function, from which the Ural State Technical University (UPI) was to grow in the future.

Formation of the university in the period from 1920 to 1940

The first years of school were quite difficult. One of the main problems was financial difficulties. The Soviet government did not have the funds to develop higher education. In the 1920s, measures were taken to rationalize the network of educational institutions. As a result, only technical specialties and faculties remained at the university. For this reason, the university was renamed the Ural Technical Institute in 1925.

In 1930, the educational institution was divided into 10 small, highly specialized institutes, close to certain enterprises. This was done with the aim of improving personnel training, but this plan was unsuccessful. Colleges (as these educational institutions were called at that time) had a weak material base. In 1934, some of them were united into an industrial institute. It became a multidisciplinary educational institution, which had 7 faculties and 31 specialties.

War years

The future Ural State Technical University (UPI), called an industrial institute in the pre-war years, built the main buildings and equipped laboratories in the 30s. In the early 40s, the institution was already considered one of the largest technical educational organizations in the country, a forge of engineering personnel for Siberia and the Urals. All this was crossed out in an instant by the outbreak of the Great Patriotic War. The university found itself in difficult conditions. First, the institute created units for general military training and organized courses for the training of nurses and sanitary assistants.

In the future, the university set itself the goal of implementing high-quality and accelerated training of specialists needed by the rear, factories producing ammunition and tanks. The studies were difficult:

  • four-shift classes were introduced, which were held in poorly heated buildings;
  • vacation periods were shortened;
  • Correspondence and evening education was abolished.

End of the war and post-war period

The Ural State Technical University (UPI, Yekaterinburg), called an industrial institute, coped with all the tests. In 1945, the Great Patriotic War ended with the victory of the USSR. The news of the defeat of the enemy burst into the educational institution with an explosion of joy. This event served as the starting point for a new period in the history of the institution.

In the post-war years, the country began to rise from ruin. The restoration and construction of enterprises began, and the demand for qualified specialists increased. In 1948, the Ural Industrial Institute was renamed the Polytechnic University named after. Kirov. This event determined the profile of the existing institution. In subsequent years, the university developed, new faculties, departments, and specialties were opened.

Entry into the number of leading universities in the country

Around the 60s of the previous century, the Ural Polytechnic Institute became one of the leading higher educational institutions in the country. The number of people wanting to study here has increased. Several people competed for 1st place. Enrollment in graduate school has also increased. In connection with the changes taking place in life, disciplines and the educational process were improved, and technical teaching aids and programmed control began to be introduced.

In 1969, the Ural Polytechnic Institute formed a workers' department. Preparatory courses have opened at the institute. Correspondence courses and a correspondence physics and mathematics school on a voluntary basis were also created. Educational television has also begun to be introduced. It has become one of the main forms of teaching in the first three courses of correspondence and evening studies.

New period in development

An important event that marked the beginning of a new period in the history of the university occurred in 1992. The educational institution has changed its status and name. The institute became known as the State Technical University (USTU). A variety of specialties opened up. Such as “World Economy”, “Technology of Artistic Processing of Materials”, “Rational Use of Natural Resources and Protection of the Environment”, etc. appeared.

Since the change of status, the Ural State Technical University (UPI) began a gradual transition to a multi-stage education system. This means that some faculties have begun to train bachelors and masters. Several other important events date back to 2008 and 2010. In 2008, the educational organization was named after the first President of the Russian Federation. In 2010, the Ural State Technical University (UPI) named after B. N. Yeltsin merged with the university named after. A. M. Gorky. As a result, UrFU was formed.

Modern period

UrFU, which currently exists, is one of the best universities in our country. The educational organization occupies high positions in national rankings. A huge number of Russian and foreign students study there. There are about 400 educational programs, and over 7 thousand budget places.

UrFU does not plan to stop there. In the future, he plans to create a scientific, educational and innovation center in the Ural Federal District. The core of all this will be the university. This will allow us to gain leadership in many areas and become one of the leading educational centers in the world.

Specialties at the university

UrFU (formerly Ural State Technical University, UPI), in accordance with the current certificate of state accreditation, operates in 37 enlarged groups of professions and areas of undergraduate training. Here are some of them:

  • mechanics and mathematics;
  • information and computer sciences;
  • astronomy and physics;
  • architecture;
  • radio engineering, electronics and communication systems;
  • chemical technologies;
  • nanomaterials and nanotechnologies;
  • management and economics;
  • psychological sciences, etc.

In conclusion, it is worth noting that UrFU (formerly USTU, UPI) is now a university that the Urals and all of Russia can be proud of. The educational organization has several branches in different Russian cities that implement higher education programs. The university also includes the Nizhny Tagil Mechanical Engineering College. It trains students in secondary vocational education programs.

Student at this university: Good afternoon, I have been patient for a long time, but today I will share information with you. Let me start with the fact that while we were studying, everyone frankly didn’t care about the fact that there were no desks and chairs on the floors. There is an auditorium for self-study, but it is always closed. Only not long ago there was more or less renovation and a couple of chairs. But what magnificent banquets, career spring, scientific conferences. Out of 100 students at such a conference, 30% will show something really useful and interesting (I’m not sure), but I’m sure that this is all window dressing. I had a case in the 3rd year, I came to the State University of Culture to prepare for the exam. I went to the reading room, they didn’t let me in in outerwear, I went to the cloakroom and there they told me there was a conference today and the rector’s decree not to accept clothes from students. And they tell me to bring the paper that you are really going to the reading room (who will give it to me) if they didn’t even let me in. Swearing okay, the security guys were normal, understood the situation and helped.

Now, perhaps, about corruption, many teachers give C grades for the bubble of tea. The most important corrupt official is G****. The exam price is 10 kopecks. I was told that in the 90s and 2000s. He didn’t even give the student a free 500 ruble tail. I also want to say about M******* when the manager. The department says in plain text that the university received money from the state for you. Now no one cares about you, is this even normal in your opinion? Many teachers don’t even want to tell the material, but there was a case when I asked a question on the topic and they called me a fool. Why, you see, I’m asking stupid questions. What's wrong with this, please? I came to learn to learn from experience; after asking a stupid question once, I will understand how to ask it correctly next time. Not every one of us is able to keep up with the team. But this does not mean that after graduation this student will be a bad specialist. For understanding, I’m exaggerating, there is one who understood the subject but became arrogant and did not listen. And the other doesn’t understand, but he’s interested and tries. And who do you think will achieve the result?

I want to quote someone else’s review so that the reader can draw his own conclusions<<<Добрый день!

Well, perhaps about R******, this man just laughed in class, giving the material without explanation and in abbreviations. When he writes something on the board, he doesn’t wait for people to copy it down. Explaining this by saying that you should read this in books. Yes, I agree, but how then does this type of education differ from independent learning? Yes, if you come to the course you are interested in and study there for two weeks. You will get more information than when no one cares about anyone, they only need money and so that no one can fuck them, they spread rot with a bunch of tasks, without explanation. I didn’t come to the university to solve puzzles in someone else’s head. The example is very simple when the ticket describes a specific task. And at the time of delivery, additional conditions appear. It’s the same with this teacher’s essay. If you have given an assignment to write an essay on a topic and say to use foreign literature, you must understand that the deadlines are tight and everyone’s knowledge of the language is different. 20 didn’t go anywhere either, but what killed me most was that he only accepted information from certain sources. Just think for yourself, the student is nervous, they are called to work or on some kind of business trip. You completed your abstract before the session, bring it, and after looking at only one page he says that this is not what he wanted to see. Well, please formulate the task correctly. Otherwise he sent me to redo it but didn’t give an explanation. I’m not the only one; this is the same story with every group. And so every year.

The second such friend is M*****, but at least he demands the case, probably one of the few honest university teachers. And ***** is also a great guy, he even wrote his own manual so that students could understand the material. He put his heart and soul into it. And not like now they just send you to the Internet, go read it, and then I’ll think about whether you read it. For the university, the student must come first and the attitude must be humane.

And the last thing: at the Department of Physics at the State University of Culture there is a rude person who can simply show you an indecent gesture in your face. She didn’t want to work and was rude if a woman had any problems in her personal life. Give the person a vacation, if she is just that kind of person then have a conversation. And after I decided to contact the rector, they sent me home and said such issues should be resolved at the department. That is, if a student finds himself in a difficult situation, no one will ever help him. This woman slandered me and until I turned the conversation in a different direction and said that if they do not resolve this issue now, I will go to court. Okay, I’m harmful if a first-year girl from the village, for example, naive, honest and modest, gets into such a situation. All she can do is cry into her pillow in the dorm.

P.S. I wanted to go to this university since I was 6 years old, I worked towards this for many years, tried to do the work myself, studied the material. And then you just have this attitude: you are trash and others will come to take your place. I hope the necessary authorities will be interested in this message and resolve the issue. Oh yes, the idea of part-time teachers is complete nonsense, and perhaps these people are experts in their field, but the majority either don’t want to teach or don’t know how to teach. They have their own lives, children and dreams, they don’t care about full-time and part-time students.
