After connecting the cable and making all the settings, an access error occurs.
Check if the cable is connected to the router, make sure that you have entered the correct username and password. Go to any web page using the mobile application and use the Smart error search option to find and fix the problem. The process may take some time.
Error #678. No access to the server
The problem can be solved as follows: unplug and install the network cable into the socket, reboot the device (gateway, modem, etc.). Wait 8-10 minutes and reconnect.
Error 691: the server reports that the login or password was entered incorrectly or the account validity period has expired.
The problem can be solved by checking the login and password. To check your account status, go to the operator’s website and enter the data there.
Is it possible to write down the network name in Chinese? Why is the name spelled incorrectly?
The router supports the network name in Chinese, but for correct display, connect it to gadgets, for example, a smartphone or tablet that supports the Chinese SSID.

Setting up the Internet on the Xiaomi Mi WiFi 3 router
I set up the Internet through a Xiaomi router more than once and I can say that, although rarely, there are errors in determining the connection type - remember I said that it is detected automatically? So, to change it manually, you need to select your type of connection to the provider from the drop-down list in “Settings” in the “Internet” section. Three options available
- PPPoE
- DHCP (dynamic IP)
- Static IP
Setting up Xiaomi Router 3 for BeeLine (L2TP)
Unfortunately, the stock firmware does not support the L2TP and PPTP protocols, which means that it is not possible to connect the router to the Internet from the Beeline provider. Another option is to install an intermediate cable router and connect Xiaomi to it.
If you have a PPPoE connection, then enter your login and password in the fields indicated in the image below.
If the provider has configured mandatory binding by the MAC address of the computer, then below on the page in the same section there is an opportunity to clone it from the main computer. The MAC of the computer will be detected automatically - we just have to click on the left button to use this function.

It is worth noting that the listed characteristics are almost identical to those offered by the Mi WiFi Mini router. However, judging by external data, there will be differences. The body of Mi WiFi 3 has become noticeably larger, and the number of external antennas has increased to four.
A pleasant surprise for interested citizens will be the price category in which the Xiaomi Mi Wi-Fi Router 3 finds itself. Only $30, which is not so much for such a balanced device. Among its obvious advantages is the operation of one of the radio units, which is capable of operating at a frequency of 5 GHz. On the one hand, speeds of up to 867 Mb/s will only occasionally be fully realized. This is all due to the limits for the LAN and WAN ports, which can only provide 100 MB per second. On the other hand, it is better to purchase a router with such an opportunity, even situational, than to be content with its complete absence.

Of course, with port capacities in the region of 1 Gb/s, the value of this router has increased noticeably, but at the same time it is possible that the cost would also be revised. Based on the current parameters, the functionality of the processor used ensures stable operation with virtually no incidents. By adding the optimal firmware version here, overall performance will only benefit.
During a series of tests, it was found that in IPoE and PPPoE modes the router is capable of providing a router speed of 90 MB per second. This is true for one-way speed transfer. Speaking of full-duplex modes, you can get even more impressive results. The hardware accelerator installed in the chip played an important role in this.
But if you switch to using L2TP and PPTP, you will have to be content with modest speed capabilities. The good news is that it was not possible to achieve such wide distribution for these modes, so they were deprived of even basic optimization. Thus, for full operation it is enough to use IPoE and PPPoE.
When connected via a VPN, you can equally use downloading data from the Internet and the local network provided by the provider. At the same time, the speed not only does not decrease, but also in some moments demonstrates its growth. Given the presence of USB ports, you can connect a printer without any problems.
While testing the capabilities of the radio units, we were able to discover several interesting details. Firstly, at a frequency of 2.4 GHz, the speed varies at around 60-65 MB per second, which is valid under single-thread conditions. By increasing the number of threads to 8, the speed limits will expand to 70 MB per second, and sometimes this mark can reach 90. Secondly, at a frequency of 5 GHz it will be possible to get no more than 90 MB/s when one stream is loaded. For simultaneous operation of eight threads, the total speed will reach 160 Mb/s. All this suggests that a radio unit with an increased frequency reduces speed due to the presence of restrictions.
Setting up the Xiaomi Mi WiFi 3 router
Let's return to one remarkable detail related to language. Taking into account the ability to connect the Xiaomi Mi router online and configure it, you can quite easily and quickly translate Chinese inscriptions using various services, such as Google Translate. If you don't know how to connect your router to the Internet, you'll have to work hard to familiarize yourself with the router's interface and follow the next steps in the correct order. Another advantage of using an Internet connection is that you can update the firmware to the latest version.
So, setting up Xiaomi Mi WiFi is as follows. First of all, we need the site miwifi.com, which will act as the online interface of the router. After entering all the necessary data, including passwords for Wi-Fi and the admin panel, the router will begin automatic configuration. Once this installation is complete, a message will appear on the screen indicating that the router will reboot.
The next step is to connect again using the previously set passwords. Once you enter the control panel, you will see several tabs: routing status, memory status, general settings and advanced settings. First of all, you need to go to the third tab, filling out all existing fields. These steps will help you automatically connect your Xiaomi WiFi router to the network in the future.
As you explore the other tabs, you'll be able to add and edit whitelists and blacklists, set ranges for valid IP addresses, update firmware and backups, and activate or deactivate VPN services. Separately, you should look at the “Advanced Settings” tab, where you can find QoS - smart speed.
It is highly not recommended to make any changes here if this is your first time seeing the router settings. Otherwise, the connected options will lead to a sharp decrease in speed limits.

Despite the fact that it is advisable to use the standard version of the firmware, which is in the stable branch, it is possible to switch to another one. This is a special version for developers, thanks to which they will be able to use the console for the embedded OS. The main advantages are stability, high performance, maximum speed characteristics and wide functionality for subsequent changes.
Unfortunately, it is impossible to find a ready-made version of such firmware. Therefore, you will have to use open source sources to recreate the firmware prototype and use the customized device for your needs. Who said that setting up a router would be easy? It turns out that this will take a considerable amount of time and effort. But the end result of such work will certainly bear fruit!
In the future, you will be able to be content with the following: get a choice of one of the proposed interfaces - Russian and English, support for PPTP/L2TP, greater opportunities for setting up and working with many USB devices, as well as editing user scripts to create key events.
A specialist who configured the router using non-standard firmware notes that independently changing certain settings may not only not lead to the desired results, but also to situations in which the operation of the router will be completely stopped. And in such cases, it is no longer possible to do without the efforts of qualified specialists who will have to recover data from flash memory. In addition, rash actions when setting up the device yourself can deprive you of managing services remotely and working with special options for mobile gadgets. The latter factors play rather a formal role, but they will still negatively affect the comfortable work with the router.

If some call it a repeater, others call it a Wi-Fi signal amplifier, which will not be entirely appropriate, based on its features. To expand the coverage area, the Mi WiFi 3 router should be used together with Mi WiFi+. The latest gadget is interesting because it costs only 7-8 dollars, and its compact size will not cause any difficulties with subsequent operation.
Once the two devices start working simultaneously, the signal that was previously intermittent or non-existent will now be stable. In what cases is this important? In city apartments, when you have to deal with a huge number of other networks. By expanding your wireless network range, you get a nice bonus when using mobile devices. It is not recommended to use such a duet on an ongoing basis, because it can negatively affect overall speed performance.
Thus, Mi WiFi 3 is a worthy representative of mid-class routers. Control panel in Chinese. What to do, how to change the language?
As for setting up Xiaomi mini WiFi, this is most likely the only point that may disappoint you about this router. The fact is that the router settings are in Chinese. There is no option to choose Russian, or even English. If you want the control panel to be in Russian, you will have to flash the router with third-party firmware (PandoraBox, Padavan). The firmware process itself is complex. Perhaps I’ll write about this in a separate article.
English language can be added. You need to change the region to Europe in the Wi-Fi settings and update the firmware. I will also write about this in a separate article. Well, I advise you not to bother and just set up the Xiaomi mini router according to my instructions. Will anything change if the settings are in English? This is a router, you configure it and forget about this control panel. And everything is exactly what language it is in. The main thing is that the Internet works well and stably.
One more thing, the router can be configured from a smartphone or tablet using the Mi Router application. The application is in English, everything is clear there. We will also consider this option at the end of this article.

Xiaomi Mi Router Mini: setting up Wi-Fi and Internet
First, connect power to the router, and connect the cable from the provider or modem to the “Internet” port.
Next we need to go to the settings of the Xiaomi router. First we will look at the first setup from a computer (laptop). You can connect your computer to the router using a cable (although there is no cable included), and via Wi-Fi. Immediately after turning on, a wireless network with the name “Xiaomi_some numbers” will appear. It is not password protected. Let's connect to it.
If you have access to the Internet right away through your router, then it makes sense to configure it through the Chrome browser, or Yandex Browser. They can translate pages on the fly. And the control panel will be more understandable. The translation there is not perfect, but still better than Chinese characters.
1 Open any browser and go to the address miwifi.com (it is listed at the bottom of the router). Or 192.168.31.1 . You can see the detailed article in which I showed. On the first page, just click on the big Chinese button :) This is something like a license agreement.
2 Next you need to set the Wi-Fi network name and password for it. The password must be at least 8 characters. Since the router is dual-band, the password will be the same for networks on two frequencies. It can be changed later in the control panel. Let's continue with the setup.
3 In the next window, we need to set a password that will protect the router settings. This password will need to be specified when entering the router settings. Enter your password and click on the button to continue. If you want the router password to be the same as the Wi-Fi password, you can simply check the box. But I don't recommend doing that.
4 We see a message that the router will create two Wi-Fi networks at different frequencies, their names will be indicated there. The router will reboot.
After the reboot, a Wi-Fi network will appear with the name we set during the setup process. Connect to this network using the configured password.
5 In the settings window, if you have not closed it yet, you can click on the button and you will see a message asking you to install a proprietary application on your smartphone to control the Xiaomi router. You can install this application in the App Store, or Google Play if you need it. It's called Mi Router. Below I will show you how to set up a router from your phone using this application.
Important point! If the Internet through the router is already working on your devices, then the setup of the Xiaomi router is complete. If you want, you can go into its settings, I’ll show you how to do it below.
If Internet does not work through the router, then it needs to be configured.
Entering the Xiaomi router settings and setting up a connection to the provider
1 In your browser again, go to miwifi.com. You will be prompted for a password. Enter the password you set during the first setup. This is not a password for Wi-Fi, but rather for a router.
2 To set up the Internet (connections to provider) go to settings to a separate page as shown below. Select your connection type from the list. Most likely you need to select PPPoE. It’s just that if you had a DHCP (Dynamic IP) connection type, then the Internet through the router would work without configuration. You can check your connection type with your provider.
3 After selecting PPPoE, you will need to set the necessary parameters for the connection. These parameters are issued by the Internet provider. Also, they are most likely indicated in the documents that were given to you when you connected to the Internet.
4 If your provider uses MAC address binding, you can change it on the same page, below. Just enter the required MAC. Or ask your provider to write down the MAC address of your router, which is indicated in this field, or on the body of the device itself.

If you want to change the name of the Wi-Fi network, password, channel, or for example disable the network at some frequency 5 GHz, or 2.4 GHz, then go to the settings and go to the page as shown below.
If you scroll down the page, you will see the 5G Wi-Fi settings there, as far as I understand the guest network settings and changing the region.
As you can see, nothing complicated. Even though the settings are in Chinese.
First setup of a Xiaomi router from a phone or tablet (Mi Router)
You can also configure the router from a mobile device. First you need to install the proprietary Mi Router program on your phone. We install it from Google Play or App Store. If you don’t want to install the application, you can configure it through the browser of your mobile device, as I showed above.
Connect your smartphone to the Xiaomi router. The Wi-Fi network will have a standard name and will not be protected by a password. Also, do not forget to connect the Internet to the router.
On my iPhone, immediately after connecting, a window appeared with the router settings. And on Android, in the Mi Router program you need to select the "Set up a new router" item. We indicate the location where the router is installed and click the “Next” button.
The router will check your Internet connection, and if your provider uses a DHCP connection, you will see a message that the Internet is connected. Like in my screenshot below. And if you have PPPoE connection technology, then you will need to set some parameters (login, password).
The last step is to set a password for the Wi-Fi network and change the name of the network. Enter this information and click the "Finish" button.
Please note that the password set on the Wi-Fi network will also be used to access the router settings when logging into the control panel at miwifi.com.
That's all, the router setup is complete. If something does not work out, then go to the settings through the browser and change the necessary parameters.
Even without updating the router's firmware to English or Russian, you can configure it without any problems, and everything will work. Yes, the settings are very difficult to understand in Chinese. Even in English it would be easier. There is an English version of the original firmware; in a separate article I will show you how to install it.
